Wayne,

Have you seen the ART Phono preamp?
I wonder if it's a candidate for modding

Looks like it's about $40......

Brad,

I did see it. I ordered one in from Full Compass to take a look at it about the same time I ordered the Hagerman Bugle.

It uses one 4558 IC, 1 diode for rectification on the PS and a bunch of cheap electrolytics for couplng.

It really isn't going to be any better than the phono section in a cheap receiver.

Everything on the board would have to be ripped out and replaced. You would be paying $40.00 for a circuit board with not that great a circuit on it.

The Bugle is the best buy in a phono section.

I have been listening to the MMF-5 through mine and it sounds outstanding!

I will be using it with a K&K Audio step-up transformer with my new Shelter 501 MK 2 for awhile until I get the Cornet built.

Hey Wayne,

Thanks for the report.  I thought it was worth a look.
Looks like you're a couple of steps ahead, as usual

I've heard great things about the Hagtech gear - which looks more focused on sound quality.   I like the battery power supply in the bugle, too.
