Quad 12L or Sterling LS3/5A V2.  The Quad has a little more range (bass). The Sterling is more refined and has better off-axis response, as you would expect.

Recently purchased a pair of Silverline SR-15s. Very nice monitors but if the SR-17s are better. No, think I'll resist that urge for a while.

5 pages on monitors and no one mentioned ATC!

if there is a neutral, no colorations, precise and revealing thing - ATC is. no wonder pink floyd uses them to record, produce, post-produce & master their music. also mark knopfler, kate bush and many more.

if you want a small one - ATC 7 sounds more neutral and relaxed than proac tablette sig 8 (a nice speaker but...:))

ATC 20 is a great allrounder for rooms up to 20m2

ATC 50 is a killer for bigger spaces but pricey.

look s/h, they are undestructable.

I was one of the first owners of the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170s and have been very pleased with them for the price.  Detailed, yet very tuneful, they image like champs.  Very high content value if you can live with the vinyl finish.

But if my budget went beyond the Ascends I'd go active, period.  The advantages are huge!!  Years ago I compared Paradigm Studio 20's ($800/pair small two-way standmounts) versus Paradigm Active 20's ($1600/pair, same drivers/cabinet but each had it's own power amp).  No comparison, not even close.  Ruler flat frequency response, giant improvement in dynamics (like going with big/high efficiency horns), and you'd swear a powered subwoofer had been added.  Others in the store shook their heads in disbelief.  This was one of three audio ephiphanies I've experienced.  It is now a foundational truth that I will always follow in audio.

So sell the amp and look for ATC, PMC, or Mackie active studio/home monitors.

Mackies are the best value for money, stuff like 824 is a tremendous VFM. However for absolutely critical listening they are not up to ATC or PMC flagship models, but this level of quality is seldomly needed at home enviroments.

I second the active monitors recommendation.
