Just wondering if anyone owns or has heard this pre from nOhr, and has any comments on how it performs. Thx!

I had this pre a couple of years ago...my first tube experience. I has a very lively
sound but a bit rough around the edges. I used it with my IRD monoblocks but
after awhile decided to look for something more refined. I tried a passive pre then
moved to an ONIX SP3 integrated which I have now. Also, I found my ACA
unfriendly to tube rolling. It only liked the cheap Sovteks. That's not so bad unless
you like to experiment which I do. Hope this helps...

What tubes did you try to roll? I have tried Sovteks and I found the sound on my Radii was just like you just described, hard and rough around the edges.

Truant,

Do you recall how quiet the nOhr pre was? Any hum issues with it in the system?

There is a nOrh Owners Circle here:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?board=12.0

You may be able to find more info on this preamp in the topics there, and you could move your topic there if you wish. Let me know if you need help.

Intereststing point to me is that the tubes may be what makes the sound rough/not rough. From what I have read, many have purchased this pre and are pretty happy with it.

there was always some hum but never too objectionable. The main issue came when rolling tubes...
the whistling/screaming sounds.  More like having a tea kettle for a pre.  Too bad because the
amperexes sounded good.
