At least that's what my co-workers thought they were.  :D

Ei Elite 12AX7E's X 4
AWA-Thorn 6BM8 X 4
Winged C SED EL34 X 8

It's been a while since I've tube rolled.  I wanted to try all new stuff! (well ok I have tried the Ei's before albeit not the Elites) Time to roll on!!!   8)  :thumb: 8)

OK I just HAD to go home and plug these puppies in! It took about 45 minutes. My setup is such that I have to pull out my amp in order to bias it. It's a real pain. Any way the SED's bias much better than any of the JJ's. JJ's tend to want to bias so high then they just will not go any higher making it very difficult to get them all the same level.  The SED's do exactly what I tell them to.

I got a little suprise when I plugged in the Ei's. One of them flared up for a millisecond then settled back down.  I'm crossing my fingers that this was an isolated and unimportant occurance. I got to listen for about 3 minutes before I had to leave again.  Of course it sounded like crap, but will break them in pretty seriously over the next few days.  Once they're good to go I'm going to do a little rolling with the JJ's and the SEDs as well as the AWA 6BM8's and my old Ei's.

Hey!

Yeah, I remembered when one of my non-audiophile co-worker came over once time and saw my SET monoblocs he said "Wow! Where did you get these? They're must be very old!"

He was surprised when I told him "Oh! They are 1999 vintage" and "And by the way they're still make tubes today"

That was a about 2 or 3 years ago. BTW... I'm 29 now and my friend he is about 2 years older than me.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Played with my tubes a little bit last night. They are slowly stablizing, and still biasing very well (always a good sign) I do get the occasional dropage in one tube and increase in another, but they are starting to settle.  If I sound nervous it's because I had a tube take out my amp 2-3 years back with a set of Svetlana's.  It took a lot of convincing before I would buy another set of them, but I was assured that what happened to my amp was not common at all.

Any way even though they are unfocused and hard in the upper midrange as well as a little "harsh" over all they are starting to sound really sweet.  I now remember why I loved the Svetlana/SED's so much.  :o
