Hmmm... could this be a thread for suggesting great test tracks? I know there are plenty of those, but this one could capture the interests of us GTA audiophiles - who have really diverse interests in music, believe me I know.

Took a listen to a sample of Spirit's suggestion and it sounds really good. Some monster 80s musicians too!

I like to use:

Ok, seriously now, I more or less just go with the mood, but there are some artists who always remain on the list; Tori Amos, Cowboy Junkies, The Tea Party, and Natalie MacMaster.

After the last listening session hosted by MKOM, Tori Amos' Winter EP is sitting at the top of my list, I knew it was pretty good before, but had no idea how good.

For years I have been using a compilation disc that I put together for system testing purposes including songs that I am not only intimately familar with but which are of the highest recorded quality. I chose songs that stress elements of the system that are important to me. All tracks were ripped securely with EAC and then burned with Feurio on a gold CDR.

I bring this test CD everytime I go test pieces of gear.

and mine is.......but seriously how do we get these tracks? I am a newbie into this area..just putting a system together recently..the only place to buy these track by track is online..but is the quality as good? since most of them are not lossless..

I can get almost all of them from my city's public library system. I find it's a great way of discovering new music risk free, if I don't like the music I just return the discs. With regards to quality, if it ain't lossless it's not going to be CD quality, is it good enough, who knows?

I use the Toronto Public Library online system to reserve CDs and have them shipped to my local branch for pickup. Every CD in every library in Toronto right at my fingertips, technology is a great thing.

Vinny I own the CD's that the selected tracks originate from so it's simply a matter of me ripping, compiling and then burning them onto CD. With the methods I use the individual songs are an exact copy of the originals.

To all those asking for a copy I don't really feel too comfortable making copies of the disc for mass distribution. Perhaps trying Aerius' method is a viable option. It sure sounds like a neat way to hear new music. I'll have to give it a try myself. Thanks for the tip, Aerius.

Hey, no intention to get Pneumonic to become the TAAS Jolly Roger; I know I'll buy at least a few of the CDs on his list. That's why I like threads like this, as it helps direct my purchases towards the good stuff.

At a Christmas gift exchange, one of my friends made a big multi volume 80s compilation from his collection. Another of my friends volunteered to make sets for everyone on the multi disc burner at work. I was the only one to turn it down because a good amount of the tracks were sourced from MP3s, my CD player won't read anything that's burned above 4x, and I just like owning discs I like playing. They couldn't understand my rationale. Us poor misunderstood audiophiles
