A friend just pointed me towards a Russian artist that I figured a few of you may also be interested in. I would classify her sound like KT Tunstall or Norah Jones. Good vocals, relaxing melodies. With a bit of Avril Lavigne sas.

Plenty of sound clips to select from.

I found that listening to this NPR interview

can really help to understand what she's about.

I had pretty high hopes from a offbeat bubble gum pop song I've been hearing on one of our local stations- "Fidelity" on her new album Begin to Hope.  I ended up buying Soviet Kitsch and felt a little let down.  The accompanying dvd with videos made it seem all the more youth friendly.  I may not have given the cd enough time yet but it's been hard to get the dvd off my mind.

However, her live concert on NPR from Washington's 9:30 club wasn't too bad and may be worth checking out if you like this cd.

Vocally, i'd classify her as similar to Tori Amos. I got Soviet Kitsch about a year ago and will probably get fidelity in the near'ish future. My main quibble with Kitsch is the immature lyrics.
