DIO modders -- removing U2?

I was about to rip out U2 (used only for the A/D side), when I realized that I use the LEDs it drives so I can tell whether the DIO is synced, or whether to look elsewhere if there's no sound (I've been doing a lot of messing about with other bits as well lately). It doesn't quite work right but the green one comes on, the red one flashes, you get the picture.

Anyway, does anyone think that removing U2 would have a beneficial effect on the sound?

I guess I could just put in a socket and try it with and without a chip in it

John,

U2 does not have anything to do with the sync LEDs. Those are driven from the digital daughter board.

The LEDs that U2 does drive are for volume indication.

All the mods I do involve the removal of U2. The DI/O works just fine without it when used as strictly D/A

Yes, I use the level LEDs to tell whether it's synced, because in internal sync mode the sync LED comes on regardless of whether it's actually synced or not... :(
