Musicgiants.com anyone?

Not a plug, I'm just curious. Anyone downladed from this site? Anyone know what they're source is for these 5.1 mixes of popular albums? are STEREO 24bit files available? I must admit, the idea is very interesting. If I were to build an external harddrive-based music server, this would be a great way to get source material!

i was a member for a while...the quality of the downloads is great.   Peruse their library b4
signing up.   I found it great for hip-hop, but not much else.

Excellent!
Can I burn these albums to CD or DVD?

I don't think so.   I believe the files are simply there to use with your computer...i don't recall being able to get them on my Ipod either, but I didn't play around with it too much.

I was one of the 1st people to try it out about a year and a half ago.   Give it a whirl.   If you don't like it they'll refund your membership $.

I do know I downloaded a few hundred songs, and they aren't on my HD anymore.

Okay,
Are there any other sources for 24-bit quality downloads of popular music that I should check out?
Thanks,

I honestly have not looked.   By now i hope there are though.  Also, Musicgiants library is probably much larger than when i was a member.

post your findings here if you come across others that look interesting.

Bikes,

I have Nero 7 Utlra Edition and with a plugin it allows you to burn FLAC files to CD. I don't know about the legal issues but I know the technology is there. If this is of interest I can probably also track down the plugin that allows it to work with FLAC files.

I use this site often. You can burn the songs on to a disc with a little work. I know since I burned several of the music giants albums for a friend. I like the site..they have some nice titles on there. It seems to be growing. I think I used FLAC to burn them off as stated above.

Cool!
Are they 5.1 mixes then? Do you burn them to a DVD-R?
I can probably handle this. If nothing else, I'll put 'em all on a big 'ol external hard drive and worry about burning them later.

AFAIK the music is two channel. You can use just a normal CD-R ..the music will fit. I see they plan to add a video section. This will most likely be 5.1.

I like their privacy policy, wonder if they really scan your pc ( http://pages.citebite.com/f1h0s1q4q7vgd ):

"If you have registered with us, we collect information about what music files you possess on the PC you use to sign up with our service and any other PC's networked to that PC. We also collect information regarding where you obtained that music. We may collect information concerning licenses to access music obtained from third party providers. We collect information concerning the bit rate of the encode of music files contained on your PC and/or any PC connected to that PC." Ouch. They do say that if they share that information with third parties they "will not include personal information (such as your email address)"
