Greetings,
I have a customer moving up to the new EXtreme Hurricane MK II amplifiers and looking to sell his current EXtreme Elite Hurricanes. These units were built in April 2006 and are the later aluminum chassis version and he went above and beyond the V-Cap Extreme to the Elite EXtreme.

 In addition to the EXtreme the following Elite options were also implemented.

 * Custom shielded 24 awg solid core silver signal wire.
 * Furetek Gold IEC unit
 * WBT speaker binding
 * Tube cages

 These amplifiers do come with tube cages and a few different sets of KT88 tubes.

 These amps cost this customer $11,000. He is asking only $6000.

This is a great price. :thumb:  Bill, why don't you keep this one.  You said you always wanted a pair for yourself.  8)

It is a great price and he might even be flexable.

The reason for not snagging these is because when I get caught up, I will probably build a pair of the MK II's for the showroom :drool:

By the way,
 The amplifiers are in excellent condition and very well cared for. They are being used to drive a pair of Dynaudio Temptation loudspeakers being fed by a CJ preamp. They did so well in this system, he decided to go with the V-Cap MK II EXtremes when they became available. Obviously, the new MKII are available now so.....the rest is history.

 As an update, I just got off the phone with the owner and he is sending the amps to me for a thurough "going through". Him and I both want the new owners of these amplifiers to be assured they are up to spec.
 I will bring them in and go through them prior to shipping to a new owner.

Bill,

Do you have a link that shows everything that was done to the amps?

At a quick glance, I only saw pages for the new MK II.

Thanks,

George

--Reference Grade  V-Cap Teflon capacitors installed in the signal path coupling stages. 20 pieces.

--Japanese Riken Ohm resistors used for the grid stop applications. 16 pieces
All grid stop resistors are mounted directly to the grid pin of each power tube eliminating all unnecessary wiring. It is a common practice to mount the body of grid stopper resistors as close to the tube grid as possible. Many tube amp manufacturers do not utilize this practice.

--Japanese Riken Ohm resistors are used for the screen grid applications. 16 pieces

--Dale/Vishay 1 watt 1% non-magnetic resistors used throughout the signal path. 50+ pieces. The signal leads of these resistors are shortened to the shortest lengths possible

--Dale/Vishay 1 watt, 1% resistors are used in the bias stage in series with the coupling capacitors. These resistors are mounted in series with the coupling capacitors and then into the bias stage circuit boards. Again, we keep all signal wiring as short as possible.

--Dale/Vishay 3 watt 1%, non-magnetic resistors utilized throughout various power supply locations.

--All exposed resistor leads throughout these amplifiers have heatshrink applied to help reduce mechanical vibration as well as preventing circuit shorts.

--The grounding layout is reworked to provide a the best possible results with a dead quite background and lower noise floor.

--All  power supply capacitors are bypassed with Teflon units. Each power supply filter capacitor receives its own bypass unit. Total of 8 Teflon bypass capacitors

--Bybee Quantum Purifiers are installed in the B+ voltage of the power supply directly at the rectifying stage. 4 pieces total.

--Fairchild "Ultra Fast - Soft Recovery"  diodes are utilized in the rectifying stage of the power supply. The diodes are mounted directly to the capacitors of the power supply.

-- Custom shielded 24 awg solid core silver signal wire.

-- Furetek Gold IEC units

--RCA input jacks are high quality gold plated "RA Jack" RCA jacks.

--High quality WBT replacement speaker binding post used at the 4 ohm and 8 ohm positions as well as commons.
Total of 6 pieces.

--Driver tubes upgraded to high quality Russian  Electro Harmonix pieces

By the way, this is the vesrion of these units currently available. There seems to be a bit of confusion on this one. Sorry.

I just got off the phone with the owner who as agreed to drop the price on these to $5500 pr. + shipping to expedite the start of his new EXtreme Hurricane MK II units.

 I now have them in my possession and will go through them thoroughly to assure they are up to specs.

 Please review the list of upgrades for what has been done to these units.

 The final reduction on these amps brings them down to $5200 for the pair + shipping.

 This is an Audio Circle Member only price. They will go to Audio Gon in a few days at $5500.

 I am going through them and installing better internal B+ fuse holders.

 They have been working perfectly for the original owner for some time driving his big Dynaudio speakers. Nows your chance to own these phenominal amplifiers at less that half of their original cost.

 By the way, the Teflon bypass capacitors on the PS filter caps are V-Cap Teflon units. Total of 8 pieces.

I have received a few emails asking about warranty. Even though they are being sold on consignment, I will extend a Response Audio warranty for 60 days on the modification workmanship and parts. It does not cover tubes or the unit itself (including transformers although I have never had or seen a transformer go bad in the Hurricane amplifiers). The warranty covers the upgrades that were performed and components used within the upgrade.

 Don't feel too bad woodsyi, he paid MORE than that just for the mods.
