Since you're asking....I'm probably in a distinct minority but,
Mono switch, Balance, Tone controls.  Pre-outs & main inputs.

I agree, plus an A-B-A+B speaker selector switch (yes, 2 sets of binding posts)

If you look at the front/rear of the Bent Audio TAP-X that is essentially the layout we will have (I'm using John's boards & resistor modules).

What I'll do is design a front/rear panel to match John's boards and I'll have to stretch our standard chassis a little deeper to make space for all the boards.    The final design will support either UcD180 or UcD400 integrated designs with all the features on John's preamp (remote, balance, source switching etc...).

Tone controls?  That'd be a huge turn off for me.. and probably most other 2-channel people.

After thinking a bit, tone controls are not really needed. But loudness contour can be helpful for movies or when playing at low levels when company is present.
