Jeff Rowland Capri preamp
« on: 22 Jan 2007, 02:58 am »
Has anyone heard Jeff Rowland's new preamp, Capri, or know anything about it? It looks pretty interesting: http://www.jeffrowland.com/CapriPreamp.htm

If no-one is familiar with this particular model, any comments on Jeff Rowland's preamps in general?

Thanks.

It is a great preamp. I heard it in a great system and it is one of the best pre amps available IMO.

If you're not a tube-lover and like digital/SS gears, then by all means try the Jeff Rowland, they made decent gears  :thumb:

actually, many think the Rowland gear is tube like in it's sound .

Of course, the best thing would be to find a way to listen to it in your system and see if you like it.
In the end , that is all that matters.

I have also heard that many people describe JR gear as being "tube like".  I have a JR amp, but I've never had tubes to run the same speakers to compare it with.  I do have a tube CDP, but to my ears a modded squeezebox beats the tube CDP.  Is the modded SB "tube like"?  Interesting question.  I now also have a tube amp (Cayin) for my center channel, and my JR runs my R/L speakers.  To be honest, I can't tell much difference in pans between the centers and sides.  Does that mean the JR is "tube like"?  I don't know.  The tube amp has seemed to add an amount of warmth to the vocals that the Nuforce Ref. 9 and Bryston 9B did not seem to have, but the difference is much less than what I was expecting.  It's quite a subtle difference.

I bought the Model 102 power amp and returned it within a week...sound was far from tube-like, my ears couldn't take more than 30 minutes of it at one time it was very bright sounding.

Those who don't want to buy tube gear but need to somehow "justify" their having bought solid state gear? :green:
