Dan,

I listened to all I wanted to and the amp is already boxed up.

Unfortunately, I'll be busy starting today until a week from tomorrow.

I will send you a tracking number once I ship it.

Thanks,

Dan Driscoll

Hmm, think this amp will have enough juice for a set of M.L. Odyssey's? If so I would also like to get on the list if it's not to late.

Hugh,

When you signed up for this tour you agreed to follow some rules, one of which was that the amp would be shipped and insured from you to me. I understand that you wanted to save the shipping costs and that's why you had your cousin bring the amp up to the Bay Area from SoCal. But due to your Mai's schedule, I had to take time off work to go get the amp. Because of the time of day, it then took me 2 hours to get home after I picked it up. The gas I used probably cost about the same as shipping the amp would have cost you. The time I had to take off from work cost a lot more.

As a minimum, you should have checked with me before you sent it this way.

Hello Ralph,

I got your PM, thank you. It took a round-about trip, but I got the amp home, unpacked and the tubes installed this evening. It is a very attractive unit and appears well made.

Before I fire it up, I have a couple of questions and observations.

All of the documentation says 110V/50Hz. In the US standard AC power is 120V/60Hz. I assume the amp will function properly with a 60 hertz line frequency?

I thought you had said you would be shipping the amp in a wooden crate? When I received the amp it was packaged in doubled cardboard boxes.

The power cord that was supplied does not fit US power outlets. I assume that a standard 3 prong IEC power cable will be acceptable?

Thats F'ed up!  I wouldn't have done it.  You should have had it delivered to your door as agreed.

Dan,

I'm sorry for your inconvenience.

Please tell me how much I should compensate you for your time and gas then I'll send you a check to cover it.

It's just a matter of convenience that I sent the amp with my cousin, it didn't mean to save money.

I just had a bad case of shipping damage so I thought doing it this way would ensure the amp get to you in one piece.

About the power cord, you need to use a standard one since the stock wouldn't fit.

Again, my sincere apology to you.

Hello Hugh,

The money is not a major issue, I am more irritated about the time I had to spend trying to get home. Two hours to travel just 15 miles in the worst storm the Bay Area has had this year did not make me a happy camper.

It may have felt more secure having your cousin bring it up, but what if it had been damaged? His auto or homeowners insurance might have covered the amp, but it might not have, particularly since he didn't own it.

In the future, please keep in mind that you cannot change previously agreed upon arrangements unless you clear it with the person on the other end. And since neither of us own the amp, it probably should have been cleared by Ralph, also.

Dan,

Let me be perfectly clear here so you & Ralph can understand.

When I first sign up with Ralph, I said I'd love to take the Shuguang to our little group gtg this coming May in S. CA and he said ok.
Then after I received the amp, he said (and you also emphasized the point) that I only have 10 days or so to get it moving.
I was disappointed but still, I respected his and your wish by cutting the audition and got the amp ready for your turn.
The truth of the matter is this particular amp is not even on my list of consideration but hey, it's free audition so I gave it a try.

Anyway, fast forward to today.

To answer your question, as long as the amp is not in your hands, it's my responsibility to cover the cost of the amp in case anything happened.
Furthermore, it's unfortunate that the day you & my cousin worked out for the pick-up turned out to be a rainy day but who can tell?

We all have good days and bad days but...

Anyway, let's just drop it.

Hey Hugh, forgive me if I am out of line here but at the price you can get these amps for, have you considered bringing in another one for you to use for local demo's and gatherings.

What are you going to do with this amp once the audition tour is over? If you're not interested in offering this model, will you be auctioning it off?

Hi Bill,

Please, you are never out of line as far as I'm concerned.

Personally, your input is always welcome and needed.

I'm just a new guy trying to learn things around here.

Concerning that amp, it belongs to Ralph Lomax from China and I think he's going to auction it off at the end of the audition.

About the S. CA gtg, what do you have in mind Bill?
I'll do my best to accommodate you. :)

The truth is I just got a pair of Joule Electra VZN100 from TomS here for my own use.

Nevertheless, I'm willing to take your amp to the gtg so others would know about you.

Thanks Bill.

Hugh, I have to apologize to you. I just went back and read the beginning of this thread and realized it was China that started the tour and you were simply one of the interested parties on the audition list. Based on your recent post, I was under the assumption you were part of the offering.

I have to take back my comments that I made in my previous post (shown below) as now I see they do not even apply to you. Sorry if I confused you with them. I did get a bit lost in this thread and these comments should be directed to "China" and not yourself.

"Hey Hugh, forgive me if I am out of line here but at the price you can get these amps for, have you considered bringing in another one for you to use for local demo's and gatherings" and "What are you going to do with this amp once the audition tour is over? Bill,

No apology necessary but thanks for being a gentleman.
We need more people like you around here.
Sometimes people tend to forget about etiquette sitting in front of a computer. :)

Marbles,
Yes, it's our TomS and he's quite a character, isn't he?
I meant well by saying it.
He's a cool guy.

Hello AudioCircle!!

Sorry about all this but the "road tour" for the "Shuguang 502B". Has hit a bump in the road. Sort of like having a flat tire and going to change it and no spare!!  Then calling a "friend" to help you out.
We should be back on the road by the end of this week. That is when the new "tire" is going to arrive.

In the meantime!! I have some new friends here in mainland China. That are audiophiles. If you think that "Americans" are fanatical about audio. You have not seen anything yet!! The only trouble is that they are on limited budgets. But the vibes are great and I am enjoying the experience.
By chance!! If you have any good used items that you want to sell. Feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do for you. No commission or anything on my part, just a contact to put two people that like music and electronics together.

As always, all the best. From China!!!

Is the tour over and the amp returned to Ralph? If so, it's time for the testers to post their impressions.

Hello AudioCircle,

Hope this finds everyone in the best of health and spirits and all is well in the world with you and yours.

It is a little premature to say that the "Shuguang Road Tour" is over with the present model. The Shuguang 502B. Though in a sense it is. Shuguang Audio went back to the drawing board and redesigned the amplifiers and have come out with new models.
The new models are the S6 with the Shugaung Tube EL34 array and twenty watts per stereo channel and the S8 with the Shuguang Tube KT88 and fifty watts per stereo channel. The production starts in mid June and will be available shortly there after.
Pricing is very competitive and there are improvements to the design and sound. It does present a very nice all round presentation from the limited listening tests or evaluations that I have with the new products. Those interested in some photos. Email me at admin@mingyiaudio.com and I will email back to you.
We are interested in setting up a dealer network for the Shuguang Audio products and a warranty repair facility. The way these are made the warranty repair facility is a moot point. We have been appointed the North American representative of Shuguang Audio and A Ren Audio.

No more time to chat. As always. All the best. From China.

Hello Audiocircle,

As to be expected!!!  (The one eyed monster hates me!!!)  I lost the name and address of the person in Las Vegas that was on the list for the tour of the shuguang audio 502B amplifier!!!
If your out there and are still interested in evaluation of the amplifier.
Please let me know and arrangements will be made to ship to you as soon as possible. Sorry about the confusion.

As always, all the best. From China.
