Listening Tests or Oh! God!! I know I will regret this!!!!

Hello Audiocircle,

Just to update. Ming Yi Audio has a website being designed and worked over. It will not be perfect and will need revision. Probable a lot more than I will be able to do by myself. So I am or will be open to suggestions or ideas??

Another one of my ideas. Is to arrange listening tests to the "Shugaung Audio Tubed Equipment". Specifically. to start but not set in concrete, the Shugaung Audio 502B power amplifier. It's rated at fifty watts per channel and is a push pull type. Of! Course! It comes with the world famous "Shuguang Tubes", KT88 x 4, 12AX7 x 2, & 12AT7 x 2, the response is rated at 10Hz - 80Hz, SNR > 85 dB, HD < 0.5%, in sensitivity < 500mV, Out impedance 4 & 8 Ohms and it has a net weight of 22 kilos.

I would like suggestions on how to go about this. The shipping from China will be done by DHL. Which I hope does not stand for "drop heavy loads". I will pay for shipping to the United States and all that is required is that the listeners be registered AudioCircle members.
I would like to have suggestions on how to go about this and time frames one would consider fair. I do hope that there is more than one
of the "Circle" that would be interested in this project of mine. I do not know if there are customs for this or whatever other costs may be involved. So that is why I am asking for information.

The idea is to offer this amplifier free of charge to those that are interested. With the purpose to sell only if the listener likes and it fits the budget at $849 plus S & H. The only cost would be to use common sense and to ship or forward to the next person on the list, if there is more than one person hopefully. I would think that a week to ten days would be all right for evaluation. Plus I would like to hear opinions or a short review posted good, bad or indifferent. Totally up to the individual. What more can one ask?? I hope to be able to do this within the next month and no later than that. So if any of you have any ideas on how to go about this!!! Feel free to contact.

In the end we will auction the amplifier off to support a charity of my wife/ours in mainland China.

My wife has taught village children in a mountainous area of China. Where both parents are away working just to survive. Here is the killer, to go to school it costs about $30 a month per student. Most cannot afford it. One of the reasons the students like to go to school
is that the "meal" sometimes has meat in it. When the little child told Ming Yi this, she wept and vowed to help. It is a heartbreaker!!! Believe me on that one!!! If I could I would do more but my resources are limited and there is only so much we can do. There have been major improvements to the village recently. They now have, wonder of wonders, electricity.

Well!! As always, warmly, all the best. From China!!!!

My last post on page two of this thread needs to be read for clarification!!!!!

Hi Ming,

We have several audio distributor members here in AudioCircle that you ship the equipment no problem.

Do you have pictures to share?

Thanks,

Hello.
Can this amp handle 3.7 Ohm Maggies  aa and does it thump when turns on ( This could kill the ribbon tweeters )? Thanks.

China calls it a "power amplifier" and the front panel is labeled "pre-amplifier".

But it looks like an "integrated amplifier" to me.

1.  Is it remote controlled, and does the remote select inputs?

2.  Can one of the inputs be configured for unity gain or HT bypass?

This is a good idea, to do a roadshow with the amp.  Some other manufacturers on AC, as others have pointed out, have done this to good success.  Your requirements seem sound.

Typically you organize a sign up list of those who wish to evaluate the amp.  And then hopefully some organization is easy to provide to allow for closer shipping b/w evaluators so you are not shipping from west to east coast and back each and every time.

Its a nice looking amp.  Any details you can provide on the amp would be helpful.

Hello AudioCircle,

I will get some up to date photos posted. It is listed as a power amplifier by "Shuguang Audio". I believe the photos were taken and printed up of a prototype, but please do not quote me on that. I just seem to recall being told that.

In regards to any other technological items. I will get as much information gathered together as I can and post for everyones curiosity.

"Officially", I do not want to comment. "Unofficially", I believe it will drive the maggies and will not thump when turned on.

Now!!  If the "Chair Guy" would have sent his "Maggie's" so that they could be tested!!!  We would know for sure wouldn't we??? Smile!!

If any other person has participated in a "roadshow" and would share the requirements, plus's or negatives. Please feel free to PM or email me.

As always, all the best. From China.

I must say I find it surprising that you don't know whether the 502-B is an integrated or power amplifier, China, nor do you apparently know whether it has a remote.

According to this seller it is an integrated with a remote cotrol:

Hello AudioCircle,

It has just dawned on me!!  That I have a sever, no, a very sever case of rectal cranial inversion. In the simplest of terms I have my head up my ass. Not just a little way, but all the way. I have been posting the "Shuguang Power Amplifier", model 502B, as strictly a power amplifier. Not just posting it that way. But!! Insisting that it is "just" a power amplifier. Plus it does have a remote. When I was sure that it did not. I honestly do not know what I was thinking!!!

When in fact it is an intergrated amplifier!!! Because it has a volume control and selectable line inputs. I should have know better. Well!! In fact!! I do know better. But just the basics. I am doing great if I get the equipment hooked up correctly. I am the least technology minded person on the AudioCircle. Believe me on that one.

Part of the problem is the interpretation or translation of Chinese. There are those that say this product is a power amplifier. It is to a degree. It supplies power, BUT, it also, has the preamplifier function built into it. Thus, making it an intergrated amplifier.

I am fifty eight years old and when I get one thing in my mind that is it, period!! I quess that I have walking around "brain dead". Which to those that know me it is of no big surprise. Do you hear that "pop" sound? That is me. Pulling my head out of my ...!!!

To those of you that posted on this thread the correct observations. I apologize!! I mean that!! I most humble apologize. To those of you that read and thought what is he talking about now and went away wondering. I apologize.

If in the future!!!  If I post something that is not correct!!  Please!!  Please!! Please!! Feel free to say. "China!!! You got your head up your ..."  I will understand!! Hopefully!! That will not happen.....but, knowing me. It is always possible.

As always, all the best!!! From China.

It is certainly a pretty unit and it has blue LEDs, too!  :D

Sign me up for the roadshow, I'd be interested in hearing it. The power output is a little on the low side for my Vandy 2C's, they want a minimum of 40 watts. But I live in a condo and can't listen at reference levels anyway, so it should be enough.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, for scheduling and shipping purposes.
