Any advice on biasing my Onix SP3.

Well I got my Onix sp3 a few months ago. What a great sounding integrated. From what I understand you need to bias tube amps every three months or so. Well I brought myself a digital multimeter and went about biasing from the instructions I got on av123 forum. Unfortunately, I cannot get a good reading simply because the wall current fluctuates a hell of a lot (+- 10 volts). In effect, I cannot get a steady ready to bias my amp. Now people suggested I get a conditioner? or a power generator. I wouldn't mind but I have no money (grad student). In this situation how would I go about biasing my amp?

Try biasing it late at night, after midnight perhaps, when the voltage should be fluctuating less. However I doubt that your wall voltage has that much of a swing, you are saying 20 volts (+/- 10v)??! That is abnormal.

Just bring it to your office/lab and do it there. You can show all your lab friends.  Okay that last comment was a bit of a snipe but after going through the grad school experience, I am entitled.  What are you studying?  :P

I live in an old building in NYC...and it really does fluctuate that much it sucks. I can't lug that monster of an amp around...I'll get a hernia or drop it on my foot :)

I am doing my Grad work on Music education and musicology. I am destine to be poor (sigh).
