When the power goes out, could I still operate cable internet access and Vonage, assuming I have the cable modem, router, and Vonage device on a UPS (and the power to the cable company doesn't go out)?  I'm thinking of getting rid of my land line, but my wife is concerned regarding 911 service (in general and when the power's out).

If she has a cell phone, I wouldn't worry about it.

My FIOS has a 4 hour battery backup that Verizon installed for just that reason though, so you would probably be OK.

I switched to Verizon voicewing.  Everything is on UPS.  Since both of us have cell phones anyway, we probably don't even need  this but my wife wants a separate home number and PC phone with unlimited long distance is cheaper than a comparable land line.
