Paradox-3 with Vintage gear (Scott 299d)
« on: 18 Jan 2007, 01:35 am »
Does anyone have any feedback on the pairing of Paradox-3s with any vintage integrated amps? A co-worker has offered selling me a Scott 299D which looks like a fun project.  But, I really don't want to invest the time and money to refurb and/or mod this if it pairs horribly with these speakers.
Thanks,
Dave

Well, I've primarily used my Paradox 1s and Diluceos with vintage gear... they sound great!  If I still had the Paradoxes, I'd probably be using them with my work-in-progress Sherwood S5000.

I'd definitely consider the Scott, it's a very sweet amp.  It will certainly take some work to get it into a reliable state (may be necessary to replace all the capacitors), but you should be very happy with it.

I think the Paradox 3's will sound good with any quality amp --- vintage or more modern.

They sound good with my Mac 6200 integrated, or my Nad C272 amp.

Get the Scott - fantastic vintage gear.  I still have my LK-48B integrated that I built from a kit that I bought at about age 17.  I've bought two 222C's off eBay and have almost finished re-capping one of them.  I also bought two of Scott's best tuners off eBay.
