Need at least a single 8417 for one that got damaged in shipping. For Quicksilver 8417's in Richardson Texas that my buddy Jim Rivers is putting back right for me and then "auditioning" to makes sure they are right(nothing is ever free ;>).  Call 615 260 9569 with what you got and $ or write jvia@mindspring.com

I used to own a pair of Quicksilver 8417 amps and I think I've a quad or two of 8417 tubes sitting around.  Unfortunately I just moved and it may be a while before I unpack to the point where I could actually find them :( .
One thing you have to watch out for is that the Quicksilver amps are sensitive to which brand of 8417 you use.  The wrong 8417 tubes will have too much grid current and won't hold their bias.  You know you've got the wrong tube when the plates of the 8417 start glowing really brightly  :o.  I recall that Sylvania 8417s were good and I see someone on ebay (not me) has one with a buy it now price of $70.  Or you can call Quicksilver and you can get good advice on which tubes to buy.  Or you can have Jim modify the amp to take other tubes.  Triode Electronics has instructions for the conversion here: http://www.triodeel.com/8417.htm .
Best of luck,
---Gary

I am aware of most of the oibles that go with the amps. A lot of the 8417's with GE branding were another Russian type, I forget the model, that fit but would only work for a few minutes. As far as modifying, I think they are enought 8417's out there that i will leave them as 8417's, though we would like to compare the sonics of each, but that is going to be difficult to achwive.

thanks for the input.

FYI--There were three versions of the 8417 amps.  The first and second versions used the Philips/Sylvania 8417 with 12Dxx inputs (can't remember exactly which tube), the second used 12AX7, 12AU7, or 12BH7 (which it sounded amazing with...but I digress) driver tubes.  The final version used GE 8417 with the same driver tubes as the second.  As you know, don't use the GE's in the amps designed for the Philips/Sylvania without modding them first.

I wish you success in finding a set, with the right tubes and speakers, those amps can sing!  The 8417's are getting scarce, but there has to be a few sets out there somewhere.  I'll let you know if I run across any.
