Canadian - UK tax agreement
I am hit with VAT and import duties of about 35-38% every time i import from Canada to DK (we have 25% vat) , but I am told that the UK and Canada have an agreement whereby you can pay a very low UK VAT (but you may have to pay CA VAT, instead).

Some small companies will "fudge" the declared sales price to lower your taxes and duty.  VAT is charged on all goods and services + shipping costs.  If the item is a repair or upgrade, technically you have to get a form filled out when you send the goods back to Canada, so that the UK authorities know that this is not a new unit when it is shipped back to you and do not tax that.  This rule is EU-wide.

When sending package, just make sure you fill-in the correct information needed by the customs.  Each country are different when dealing with packages.  There are guidelines and procedures that needs to be met.  Just check with your local/international shipper.  Bryston ships all over the world so they know the procedures.  Always insure for the amount of the product.

Those above are just basic knowlege.

US customs love to hold CD Players or sometimes Amplifiers and such.   My Bryston went through without delay.

Hi All,

I spoke to PMC and they are OK with customers sending their SP1's or SP1.7's directly to Bryston for an SP2 upgrade.
Be aware though that all shipping costs, duty and taxes will be the responsibliity of the sender.
If anyone wishes to go ahead with this please contact Cam at Bryston - cmontreuil@bryston.ca

Be careful with that guys !
If there is a problem during the sending, you won't be covered by Bryston... and you may have to pay tax at the sending and at the returning...
PMC (or any other people working with Bryston) takes care of this by sending their machines with no tax added i think !!!!
You should think twice about it... or try to get the reel info (to be sure).

Thanks to James and PMC for sorting this out so quickly, anyone going for a back to Canada upgrade then?

I'm thinking of waiting and maybe doing it later in the year i.e. when I'm on hols or something so I don't miss it too much.

I'll be sending mine next week. I guess it'll take about 5/6 weeks including shipping back and forth.

I'm gonna have to use an old amp I've got hidden away somewhere - or may just buy another for temporary use  :D
