Hello Pat,
IMO....I don't think so. Could you list the equipment, so others could give you their opinion.....thanks.

Thats what I do when running a Sig. 30, cdp, and preamp....I have the amps volume about 75% up.
Nice looking Audion's....

No it isnt to my knowledge, but it is best you set source-max/preamp-variable/amp-max
 good luck

If you can find a DIN-RCA interconnect, you can use the Opus 21's fixed analog output and bypass its volume control.  I've had success using the Audience one, and Resolution Audio recommends one from DNM (I believe you can get one thru RA if you call them)...

Phil - do you know what the equivalent volume setting is on the analog volume in the RA when using a din to rca cable to bypass it?  Is it at 99 in bypass?

Yes, this is correct when compared to the Opus 21's single-ended/RCA output.  I used to do A/B comparisons between the DIN/fixed vs. single-ended/RCA (set at 99) by connecting each to a different input on my preamp and switching between them; I never actually measured it, but my perception was that volume was identical.  The balanced/XLR output maximum signal is higher by some amount over the DIN output (probably 3db, but I don't remember specifically)...

thks guys,Phil, you are talking about the connection underside of the player right, this the goes straight to the pre by-passing the units vc,right.this would take some fuzz out of the sonic chain???? thks for that :D

No...if you look at the back of the unit, there is a round output connector (3-pin) to the right of the RCA analog outputs, and to the left of the power supply umbilical connector.  It is labeled as "din".  This is a fixed-volume output that bypasses the volume control inside the Opus 21.  The pin-output on the DIN is compatible with DNM and Naim components, and both DNM and Audience are among the companies that make DIN-RCA interconnects.

As far as "taking the fuzz out", I did find that the DIN output was slightly clearer than the RCA output, but that it wasn't any different-sounding than the XLR output running to a balanced preamp.

thks Phil, got it.i need this cable now and a good preamp.like GG mentioned,if i set max vc on the source and amp, which is lowest distorion settings and use the pre for vc,this should work as well.but, bypassing an analog vc in the opus would shorten signal path.thats got to be worth the cost of a cable?? :D

So you could get the same by running the Opus balanced and set at 99?
