Dusty,

Can you comment on your new AC conditioner (the world's smallest), the XDC2 ($299)?

Here is a picture:

The XDC-2 AC Enhancing Filter is a new product which provides high frequency filtering as well as removing DC from the AC power line.

They work great for DAC's,CD players, switching amplifiers, or any device that can potentially add high frequency noise to the AC powering your other components.

DC is the primary culprit causing toroid transformers to mechanically hum. The XDC-2 cleans your AC by removing the DC component, allowing the powered device to operate efficiently and quietly.

Internally, XDC-2 uses two independent 7.5A fused circuits fed by a single IEC input, outputs are connected through high quality Hubbell outlets.

We plan to have these available in 4-6 weeks and they'll sell for $299.

Hey Dusty, do you also plan to make an European version available with Schuko-outlets?

Dusty, do you plan to make a 4 outlet version?  I'm interested and wish you the best of luck with the new products!

No plans for a 4 outlet version at this time...you would just use two XDC-2's.

XDC-2 is designed to work with 240v lines, you just use your country's power cord for the input, and American style cords to the components.

We won't be making them with sockets for each 220~240v country because they all use something different.

From time to time my D200's will produce a mechanical hum, so I assume DC is most likely the culprit of this. Other than making the amps run quieter, which really doesn't bother me, can't hear it with the music playing, will the XDC-2 enhance the sonics of the amp?

XDC-2 will eliminate the hum and also improve sound quality...
It provides high frequency filtering in addition to DC blocking. It's not a necessity if the hum doesn't bother you, but still an inexpensive way to clean-up your AC power.
The new D-400 will have this circuit built-in to it's power supply.

Well none of this audiophile stuff is really a necessity, but if it will improve the sound quality of the amps and my system, I'm there, especially, for the price.  :D

American sockets aren't approved for use in UK or Europe though are they?  Won't this invalidate some insurance policies?  Wouldn't you be better going for an outboard box with IEC sockets?

We do not make a 220~240v model, but the 115v model will work at these voltages also. The US style sockets are not approved for European countries but are quite sufficient for the current/voltage required. 4A fuses should be used with 220~240v input.

If there is enough demand for them, we could make a 240v model with IEC output connectors.

Just one question; presumably, I can have one output feeding one D200 and the CD player and the other output can feed the 2nd D200 and the VAC-1 which is suplying the DAC?

That should work fine. (BTW...I'm sending you a pre-production prototype today with your cables).

I should get one too...I tend to collect power filtration devices.  You should see my stash!  It's over 450 pounds total! Too big of a rig for a nomad, I'd say.

Your device looks good, now how long before the outlet comes in a cryo version?  Hmmm, that should have been a standard feature...Cryogenics International?  Hi, this is Dusty from Channel Islands.  How much for cryoíng 600 pounds of Hubbell outlets?  You like to deal in quantity, don't you? :bounce:

I woke up in the middle of the night with acid stomach--I'm becoming allergic to lobster & shellfish.  Man, I love to eat these little six inch, fried calzones filled with spiny lobster meat stewed in its juices with tomato sauce & herbs.  I get them fresh by the dozen from this lady who makes them wholesale--I affectionately call her 'mom'. They're a great treat while watching movies with my CI DAC & pre.  Now I get this rash and since I didn't know what was going on I told my doctor I had jock itch in my armpits!!! :o :o :o

Anyway, shellfish is forbidden in the Bible along with pork--I should have known better...:duh:

Back to power filtration...

It seems newer devices are getting smaller, lighter, more efficient and more 'musically benign'.  I have tried a small capacitor based DeZorel filter in my system and it is truly outstanding.  My reference is the Clear Image T4, an all out effort by the owner of AudioPrism, Byron.  It was state of the art at the time it was put on the market, but nowadays things are changing (well, it still makes a BPT look like it is sold at Toys R Us).  I know the unit has 2 million Ohm resistors in the outlet grounds to prevent DC to sneak in the unit, but no idea whether the custom made Corcom EMI/RFI modules also handle the DC issue.  Draining the transformer vibrations out of such a massive, 65 lb unit is a hassle indeed.

How is DC filtered from AC power anyway?  You mention toroidal transformers being prone to this problem--are C-core transformers too?

Dusty, I'd like to order two of these units for a 240 volt country. Am I to understand the identical unit is used for both 120 or 240 volt or is the fuse in the 240 volt version different? I just want to know whether or not I need to specify a 240 volt version when ordering.
Cheers.

Id love to know any details and sales features on the quality of construction.
What diodes does it use?
What capacitors are you using for high frequency filtering etc?
Brand of IEC inlet etc?

If its all good quality components and design, Ill happily buy one too.
