Does anyone know if the SP2 can be had with the XLR digital input in place of the two opticals?

I would think so although not positive. My SP 1.7 has that as when I got it my DVD transport at the time had a balanced digital out.  If not, I'm sure you could find an SP 1.7 at worst and upgrade it.  I'll eventually upgrade mine and at this point I don't care whether I have 2 optical or a single XLR digital input.

I'm about to order a new SP2 and I want to know for sure before signing on the dotted line.  The dealer says yes but I would like to hear perhaps James confirm this.  I reckon he is at Vegas right now.

Thanks for the reply.

That was possible with the SP1.7 (that's what i did)... so i don't see why it could'nt be possible with the SP2..
My SP1.7 has been upgraded SP2 and still have the digital XLR (but they had a problem making it work with the XLR thing, waiting for a firmware update)...
But only James could tell !

Hi ONTHEFLY,

We can install an AES EBU instead of the 2 optical inputs but the software has not been written yet so the diplay will say Optical 1 when you assign the AES-EBU to an input.Other than that it works fine.
Yes I am at the Vegas show.

James, it is also possible if someone has the SP 1.7 Pro and decides to upgrade down the road to have the XLR replaced by 2 optical inputs?

thanks

Hi James,

Does this mean that the SP1.7 or SP2 with AES EBU will be running in fully balanced topology from input to output?

Cheers,
LEvi

Hi Levi,

No the AES EBU is just the digital interface. Here is a link to a newsletter we did some years back on fully balanced circuits throughout a component.

I think I read that article before.     :duh:

I am pretty sure some manufacturers may argue with Bryston's view on fully balanced topology volume 3 issue 1.

Don't get me wrong, my Bryston Preamp and amp noise floor very low!

Thanks James.

Now you've got me questioning whether it's actually worth specifying the XLR upgrade

Decisions, decisions............
