BIG Isolation Transformer

Hey Guys

Is anyone out there running a big isolation transformer in front of their entire system?  I'm talking 2.5kva+?

I've got all of my stuff on a single 15amp line in a Manhattan apartment and am really considering one of these to clean up the crappy power coming out of my outlets.

Yup... I've got well over a ton of them, and a very annoyed wife.
With a transformer with the right charateristics, its not too difficult to implement a balanced conditioner -

If you've got some way of moving a 100lb+, you're welcome to borrow/buy one from me. If you know what to look for, they're available inexpensively on Ebay at low cost. Its the shipping costs that kills ya.

Then there are the Q in a box transformers from Equitech.  They are balanced transformers, not exactly isolation transformers per se.  Last I checked, they sold out of the 'blems' but they were so popular that their website said there were going to bring them back to offer again.  Might want to keep your eyes peeled.

My 15amp Q in a box was $400 + $50 shipping.  These are a LOT bigger than other 15amp bpt's from the competition.  Some say it is because Equitech takes a very conservative road on spec'ing their tx's and that their cores are sized for a lot more than typical bpt's.

Great info, Paul and Josh!

I was initially thinking of something like a surplus Xentek Extreme or Topaz (thanks for the offer, Paul...I may take you up on it!).  The Equitech is a very interesting alternative, though.

Assuming that this thing will need to provide power to everything in my system, including my amps, is there a "preferable" choice among these two different core types?

What about something like this from MGE?

http://www.mgeups.com/products/pdt120/powerc/tpz100/t100.htm

Here is their datasheet:

This would seem to do all the things necessary at a very reasonable cost (around $500-600 for the 5kVA version)
