SB-went wired, lost internet radio
« on: 6 Jan 2007, 10:19 pm »
I was having trouble consistently getting a good wireless signal to my sqeezebox, so I wired it.  The setup is Internet "modem" to Netgear WRT54GS router (third party firmware) wire connection to Netgear switch to which my main computer (where the music files are located) and Squeezebox are hard wired out of.

I have no problem listening to my flac files from the main computer on the squeezebox, or accessing the internet on the computer.  The computer is running Win2k, IE6, and fully updated.

If it matters the network cable to the squeezebox is pretty long-maybe 40 or 50 feet.

I didn't do anything special to the squeezebox when I switched to wired, just hooked in the network cable and fired up slimserver on the computer.

It's a routing problem.  Your SB can talk to your local LAN, but it has no default route to the Internet.  Are you using DHCP or are you manually setting the SB network settings with the remote control?  Check the default route on the SB, and see what the WTR54GS says about the SB's IP and/or Ethernet address.

It's not cable length; the limit is 100 meters.

I ran into the same problem. I think you would have to reset the SB to wireless mode by using the left arrow on the remote until you get back to the start up screen then go through the steps to setup a wireless network. If I remember right you can leave the ethernet cable connected while doing this.

Thanks for the tips.  Fortunately by the time I got around to to working on the problem again, it had already fixed itself.  Now if only my car would do the same thing!
