EAC Profiles ?
« on: 5 Jan 2007, 11:49 am »
I am just beginning to rip cds, and set up two compression profiles in EAC (FLAC and LAME mp3).  Then I got to thinking I should have directed the mp3 files to a different folder from the flac files (as i will be running slimserver with the flac files)?  If so, I don't see how to go back and edit a profile once set up. For that matter, I don't see how to even do this at all ... when i click the radio buttton for 'extraction options' nothing happens.

BTW, for those of you running slimserver, you just put all your flac files in one big folder on the hard drive?

aa   I had all my files located in Music.  Under Music I had my music divided into Genres.  Under Genres I had individual Artist's Names.  Under Artit's Names I had the individual CD's listed by title.
I hope this is responsive to the question you were asking.

I assume you set up this in the EAC compression filename process?  Seems like there were codes to put in the 'Additional command line' box on the external compression tab under compression options?

See this for the current recommended LAME settings under EAC - http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=32288

This page goes into details on EAC settings, including the above mentioned LAME settings: http://users.pandora.be/satcp/eac-qs-en.htm

If you want to rip FLAC and LAME mp3 at the same time, you'll need to use something like REACT: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=REACT

I made a REACT profile a while ago that would do FLAC and LAME mp3 in one rip that I can dig up if you want to take that path.

Where are you seeing a radio button?  Under the EAC menu > Profiles is where you save profiles.  To modify one, load it, change whatever setting you like, then save it out with the same file name.

One folder per album, organized by creating one folder for each artist, then album folders beneath those.  For compilations ('Various Artists' albums) I have a folder called 'Various Artists' and then album folders beneath that.

OK, I did get teh folder thing to work fine, and I have run both a FLAC profile extraction and a LAME profile extraction.  The LAME mp3 extracted, compressed and filed perfectly.  But for some reason the FLAC extracts and files, but it is not compressing at all.  I have run back thru all the settings in the Coaster Factory guide, and can't find anything wrong.  I believe my downloaded FLAC program is ok (maybe not ... I'll delete and download again), and I have placed it under the c\programs\exact audio copy folder.

Any thoughts???

Never mind guys.  I uninstalled flac, and downloaded and reinstalled, and it is working fine now.  Getting a ratio of around 0.62 to 0.64 - less compression than I'd heard (about 0.55), but no biggie.  Already using the -8 setting, so I guess that is as good as it gets.

Rather than doing this simultaneously, is there a way to batch compress the flac files into mp3 format?
