What's your favorite internet radio stations?

I'm a newbie to internet radio with my new Squeezebox.  :green: For all you squeezebox owners out there, what are some of your favorite stations? I'm totally open to all genres. I've done some searching within the Squeezebox menu and found some favorites but I haven't searched much beyond it.

The best I've found so far is Radio Paradise... http://www.radioparadise.com/  I've tried finding Unity on my Olive but, no dice so far.

I'll check out the pig though  :thumb:

Good idea on this thread - there is just so much out there can't begin to discover for myself.

Three I have been listening to:
KCRW - very eclectic selection of mostly new music, DJ driven which I like, not a techno fan so tune out when it heads this direction
TSF - nice jazz mix out of Paris
radioio Accoustic - sounds great, mostly folky or accoustic jazz and blues

like the radio paradise music selection but find I get a lot of stuttering and then get timed out - assuming this is my bandwidth issue.

checked out the unity site last night and enjoyed it too

My absolute favorite is Pandora.
http://www.pandora.com/

I listen to it all day at work. Pandora lets you build a radio station based on the music you like. You type in an artist or song that you like then the intuitive database selects songs or artists that have a similar sound or style to the artist you first selected. The station also lets you comment on the artist you are playing. If you don't like it you click a  , if you do you click a  :thumb: Your profile remembers your preferences and filters out (or in) artists you enjoy.

I've got about a dozen different personalized stations built so far. They cover about every genre you could imagine with one notable exception, classical. I still can't figure out how to get the database to recognize Bach, Elgar, Yo Yo Ma (and the like) as artists.

Oh, the SB also streams Pandora. Its a bit clunky but you can get the stream. You may want to set it up on your computer first and then log in through the SB. And of course, Pandora wants you to buy a premium subscription but you can get the free stream without any issues.

Whole Wheat Radio:  independent non-RIAA radio run by a couple from a tiny town (Talkeetna) in Alaska.  If they have your song and the automatic dj is playing, your request usually comes up very quickly.

WUMB-University of Massachusetts at Boston station.  Folk music almost exclusively.  Their morning drive time show is great, and every noon they have a live concert.

WAER FM - Syracuse University's terrific jazz station. Jazz weekdays and evenings. But it really gets interesting on the weekends - 3 or 4 different blues shows, a folk show, a funk show, and more. Check the schedule - great station.

www.waer.org

WERU FM, a community station out of Blue Hill Maine is also excellent. Very eclectic.

www.weru.org

Both are non-commercial, and you won't hear the same songs over and over like you do on KPIG

Excellent thread - great idea.  I see this one becoming a sticky!  aa

Thus far I've only really listened to www.pandora.com with generally good results.  Scott posted a good overview of how it works.
From my experience it is hit or miss, but it tends to get better as I provide input. Some of the songs that have come up have been waaaaaay off my intended "station vibe" (garnering an immediate thumbs down), but as time goes on the suggested songs are getting better.
One feature I like is the "bookmark", so I can reference my favorites and buy the song/album from iTunes.

I'll definitely do some listening on the others suggested so far.

Warmly,
Michael

I just ran across something about Pandora. I'd been listening to it streaming over my computer for about 3 months or so. Last month I decided to try it over the SB to see what it sounded like. As I remember, when I logged on with the SB it apparently started my '30 day trial'.

What I didn't realize was that 30 day trial was not only for playing it on the SB but also streaming it on my desktop. That means I'm back to Winamp and playing the usual streams of RadioIO and KZAM. That sucks because I really enjoyed Pandora when it was free.

One more vote for Radio Paradise.

For Jazz addicts, check out Toronto's http:// www.jazz.fm. Jazz FM is one of six Jazz stations in North America, and the 2nd. most listened to after L.A.

I also really like RadioIo: http://www.radioio.com. A very wide spectrum of genres.

Good question.
I too am an idiot who can't figure out how to add internet stations with my SB3. I copy paste URL's but for some reason it never works.

CBC's french counterpart. Unfortunately website is in french only.
Click on "Radio en direct" tab for live music, "Horaire" tab for schedule, and "Musiques diffusées" tab for playlist.
