Devore Fidelity will be releasing a new speaker called the Nines at the 2007 CES Show. The Nines is positioned between the Super 8 and Silverback and was designed for larger rooms that the Super 8 was too small for. Its essentially an Super 8 in a larger cabinent with better lower end performance. Retail $6500.

I was really happy for him when I saw that all four authors who reviewed the Super8s ended up buying the pair....I can totally understand why they did, too 

DeVore Fidelity is maybe the best kept secret in audio these days....though it's becoming less of a secret every day

Saw the 9's at CES and they are quite good!

I have some Super 8's in my living room for review
and have been very pleased with them, but
the new 9's are really wonderful, with a lot
more weight than the 8's!

If you have a small room the 8's are still the
ticket, but if you have a larger room, I would
consider the 9s!!

Either way a winning combination...

I might become the fifth reviewer to buy em!  They work perfectly in my living room system
which consists of a C-J CA200, CJ UDP-1 and a Squeezebox.  I was using Penaudio Serenades
but they are too much for my 11 x 17 room.

Wow, let's see....past speakers included the Magnepan MMGs, Von Schweikert VR-1s, and Paradigm Studio 100s v2. As far as what I auditioned before I settled on the monkeys? Hmmmm....Paradigm Sigs, Von Schweikert VR-4 jrs, Magnepan 3.6, Totem Hawks, Thiels (cant remember model number), JM Labs...and probably about four or five other models that I can't remember right now. This was Fall of '05 when I did my auditioning, and it was too many model numbers and speakers to remember a year and a half later, lol.

The big thing for me was the Maggies. I LOVE Magnepans, and I was very close to just pulling the trigger on the 3.6s. It took a lot for me to go back to a 'box' speaker, but there's just something special about what John DeVore has created. I don't know why they are as good as they are, but the Super 8s just do it for me.

In the end the Maggies would have meant compromising just a little, whereas I don't feel I'm compromising at all with the DeVores

It sounded good at CES but many were disappointed that Devore chose a vinyl only demo set-up and people were unable to hear their own music on them to really know how they stack up.

I only stepped in to glance at the 9's as the room was too full to go in for a listen.
I thought I saw a side firing woofer on them?   Anyone else actually go in further and examine them? 
When I finish up my new listening room the Super 8's were supposed to be one of the speakers I would add to my arsenal...but now the 9's have caught my attention...

The pdf says it's a 2.5 way so there's at least 1 woofer on the side.

Part of it has to be that these are sold at retail by a number of dealers, so that immediately raises the necessary price around 50% for a number of completely legitimate reasons.

I've heard the 9's a few times with Vinnie's amps (Sig 30 and prototype 70s). To my ears, they're an excellent match. I own the DeVore Super 8s and Sig 30 and enjoy this combo.

You can look at the various combinations as being somewhat room-dependent: small (super 8s/Sig 30), medium (9s/Sig 30) and large (9s/Sig 70s). Of course this is an over-simplification and I could easily live with a "large" in my 13 x 16 x 9 room But it's worth noting that either of Vinnie's amps will drive either of the DeVores.

And yes, the 9s have a side-firing woofer and a slightly larger footprint than the 8s. Overall, I'd say their sound sets them apart from “other plain vanilla 2 way speakers out there”.

Gorgeous speakers!
They remind me quite a bit (aesthetically) of my old Castle Acoustics Howards, except the Howards had a bass/mid driver on the top of the cabinet to load the quarterwave.

I'd love to hear these sometime (but you'll NEVER get my Omegas!)
