Couple more tweaks and techniques

Have a couple more small tweak/technique ideas for those who like that sort of thing.

First, if for some reason you need to change a cable termination from a "spade" to a banana this little trick will work just fine.  This type of banana is available from several vendors.

I think the above is self explanatory.

Next are a couple ideas for using 24x48x3 acoustic foam for corners.  These things are "black holes" for sound.  Especially the one where you place the length into the corner so that it extends out of the corner 2 feet on each side.  I put my head in this one during some loud passages and it is "DEAD".

These sheets are not all that expensive (I get them for $180 for 12 sheets in various colors)

Foam is GOOOOD! :D  It's fun to listen to your room slowly evolve into a quieter place as you hang the sheets up.

I just got a pack of 2" foam from Foambymail.com - if any of ya'll order this stuff be aware that they pack the stuff in plastic bags and vacuum seal them.  So what you get is a big wad of rumpled up foam wrapped in cardboard sheets.  Kind of low class, but I guess it gets the job done.  When they tell you to unpack the stuff as soon as you get it they ain't kiddin' either!

I haven't tried hanging mine yet, I just hope it expands back into its natural shape.  Otherwise I could see matching up edges to be a bit tricky. The Auralex stuff I have has a higher wedge count and they ship flat in 2'x4' boxes, but other than that it seems like the same material as fbm's stuff.  Even the color is very close.

I can't see how this stuff would have a low WAF - I mean, it's colorful, it's wedgy, it looks futuristic...come on ladies, foam rocks!   Eggcrate yeah, that's tacky - but the wedges, no way!  :)

Ahhh, now I see the difference.  Foambymail's cutting tolerances are for #@%&.  I couldn't get two pieces in the entire lot to line up right!  Sooo...I guess that's the price\performance compromise there.  Checkerboard layout would work, though.  Hmph.

Yeah its pretty cool, to "not hear" some of the "hash" you have been hearing.

I ended up with 12 sheets or 24x48x3 since I heard the 3" sheets did a better job done to 200hz.

Also the 3" is stiff enough that it stays in the corners without adhesive.  You just put it up, push it in and it stays.

If you have to cut it, the best way is a bread knife or an electric carving knife with the bread blade.

If you want better quality (but higher prices) look here.

I get them from a distributor called Hi Fi Audio.  They are about $19.95 a pair plus shipping.
