Powering up your system
« on: 30 Dec 2006, 02:49 am »
In what order should you power up/down your components?  In my case, I've got an integrated amp, CD player, DAC, turntable, phono-amp. I do not have a dedicated power supply, just using normal wall outlets.  Thanks!

Power up:
 Table
 CD player
 DAC
 Phono amp
 Integrated

You always want to turn your sources on first and them amplifier.

Power down in reverse order shutting the amplifier down first.

Appreciate the quick response, thanks!  So basically, don't power up or power down any other components that are connected to the amp without first having the amp powered down.

simple way to remember about your amp is "last on....first off..."

The reason you want to turn your amp on last and off first is that some preamps and source components will make a noisy shutdown.  Sometimes they can send a power/noise spike through to your amplifier and if it is on, could potentially damage your speakers...

And you won't know until you forget which order to do things!!
