pretty exciting sounding development.

I think this says something - after attending the Stereo Times listening sessions for this review a dozen people put orders in for the player at $10,000 a piece, of which 5 were Stereo Times reviewers!

I am imagining this bodes well for the near future of CD playback and supports the notion I've seen expressed a few times over the years that 16 bit 44 kHz PCM digital, if done correctly, can be better than we imagine.

FWIW, both of my Panasonic dvd/dvd-A players have a buffering system in them but to what extent does sound get modified is anyones subjective guess. they also have "remaster" fuctions as well, 3 settings.

How do I know they have buffers?

You can take the top off and stop the actual disc with your fingers and the music continues to play for about 15 seconds.
