Bugle Battery Power MOd?
« on: 19 Dec 2006, 02:23 am »
Can I mod my Hagerman Bugle to run on two banks of 6 D cells in series (9 volts per channel) instead of going the 9 volt battery route?  I jsut want to make sure I won't fry anything.

Yup.  You can even run more batteries for higher voltage.  This is exactly what I think is in the PhD phonostage.

Thanks Jim!

What kind of max voltage would you recommend for optimum performance - 12 volts or so (8 D cells per channel?)

Shane,

Kindly post a picture of this when done.  I am interested in trying to source the battery holders as well as seeing how this would be wired up.  Thanks in advance.

8 cells is fine.  Automotive standard (maybe that's the wrong word) is 9 cells, which sort of defined voltage supply headroom for many analog chips.

Hypothetically, would there be any problems if I wired two 12V car batteries as 24VCT to a battery powered Bugle?  No need to change batteries for years.

Lots of people have done this.  Only usually with a smaller SLA type.

One good thing about car batteries: if you have a solder ball short or some other assembly flaw, it's often real easy to find.
