Has anyone else bought this one yet? If not, you'd better run, not walk, to pick it up! Absolutely wonderful in every way. It was recorded in 2003 (if I remember correctly), so it doesn't have much from Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, but her older stuff is well represented, including stuff from her hard-to-find Canadian Amp album. Most of the stuff has a somewhat country-ish sound, as her older stuff does tend to- I'd say her latest stuff is more "alt" and less country. Interestingly, she does present "Maybe Sparrow" as an "experiment", saying she hasn't decided if she likes it or not. But that wonderful song would later appear on Fox Confessor and is really typical of her "new" song style.
The sound quality of the DVD is pretty good, and the performances are fantastic. I'm really impressed by her band. Whilst watching the DVD it occurred to me that Neko & her band could very easily have been the next Alison Krauss + Union Station if she'd have stuck to that path instead of taking a turn towards a less accessible art-alt style she currently works.
For the record, I'll say Neko Case has one of the most amazing female voices I've ever heard, and if this DVD is any evidence she may actually sound better in concert than on record! None of her vocal parts are 'dumbed down' here- she's certainly not the type of songwriter that relies on a lot of engineers to fix her vocals in the studio.
My one complaint? I won't be happy til I hear her cover Patsy Cline!
