Cornet 2 vs. Project tube Box
« on: 14 Dec 2006, 04:06 am »
I have a Project Tube Box and was wondering how it would compare against a Cornet 2?

Just getting back into Vinyl and trying to build a decent system.

Just picked up a KAB Technics SL-1210 (Outboard power, Fluid Dampner, Stobe disabler, and M5G arm and wiring) and am using the Project.

Just bought a Cornet2 kit from jrebman and am going to be building it.  He has a lot of the recommended upgrades, resistors, caps, etc., so I think it should easily smoke the Project Preamp.

Anyone have any thoughts.  Hoping the Cornet2 will be agood enuff match for the Technics, and I can begin the Quest for the "right" cartrige!

Thanks

Since nobody has stepped forward, I will comment.  Yes, the Cornet2 will smoke the Project.  There are some great posts on tweaks on the board here.  I have had several friends in AWE of the sound with my Cornet2.  Even my wife admits hearing a major difference.  She usually is afraid to comment in fear of encouraging me to build more projects!  I currently have a nearly finished Clarinet.  Can't wait to bring that on line.  Peace.  Robert

I also have KAB modded Technics and use an original Cornet with upgraded transformer, caps, tubes, etc. It really is probably in between the Cornet 2 and the newer Cornets.
Sounds great.
I am switching to a one box preamp solution (Audio Mirror PP1) so will be selling my Cornet, but was very happy with it.
Not familiar with the Project Tube Box.
