Hi Guys,
I have a Meridian G08 CDP which rattles when some of my Cd's first run up on loading and the disc is info is read. This rattle reduces when the tracks advance and the disc slows down but it initially can be heard across the room approx 10 feet away and above the music at a reasonable volume.
I have recently received the player back from Meridian who have replaced the rom drive again free (it's now on it's third drive!!!!!) although the player was purchased second hand which shows their level of service back up. Their service dept have "tested" the new drive with 3 Cd's I supplied them that rattled on start up, but 1 of these still rattles although not so much now.
I unfortunately have since found more Cd's in my collection that rattle on start up!!!!
The ROM drive is a DSL 710A DVD tray loader used in several DVD players, but these players appear to fail fairly regularly according to some of the forum sites I have recently visited.
Is there a better quality DVD ROM drive available that I can substitute for the DSL 710A which would be more reliable. I have done a few searches on the net, but there appears to be little info available on this.
I am pretty confident at PC repair etc so I'm not shy at doing an upgrade although Meridian probably won't touch my player again if it has a non standard drive installed.
Meridian have said they would continue to support drive replacement if necessary, but I think it's pretty poor on a CDP that retails at £2250 UKP.
The sound of the player is very good through my Bryston/PMC system, but I'm getting pretty fed up with the drive snags, it's all very well being told you are paying mainly for the electronics if the drive is not up to it.
Any advice gratefully accepted.
Many thanks in advance for any replies,
Regards,
