selling off lp collection
« on: 6 Dec 2006, 10:41 pm »
I have hundreds of LPs, mostly in mint condition. I haven't played them in 20+ years and when/then only hi-end tt (VPI/Souther/Grado sig. etc) always cleaned and still in VRP dishwasher sleeves unless otherwise stated. Problem is I live in rural France. I posted a few on Gemm and Amazon but got no offers. To make it easy I'm only going to mention a few, not necessarily to sell here but I would like addresses of places and people likely to be interested. I totally do not understand the pricing I have seen. Example; I have a mint copy of Ricky Lee Jones, the 10inch Lp 'Girl at her volcano'. Someone was asking 150$ and somebody else 50$, apparently in the same condition! I have the Sheffield Lab Dave Gruisen "discovered again" and Sheffield re-issue to sell, a bunch of old classic RCA's, Decca's etc. More interestingly, the box set of of "The Gale Edition", also virtually mint. I don't expect crazy money, I just want these to go to a good home and I would like to finance a few new bits for my hi-fi. Any ideas would be welcome

List out every single one of them and post it on Audiogon, if no bites, then Ebay... If you get really desperate just send them to me and I will put them to good use :thumb:

Do you know if there are any local Audio Hi-Fi shops you could advertise at?

Don't all reply at once!!!
Thanks destroyer of hope...the term hi-fi shop has not yet been invented, or uttered. I am a time traveler.
Right, I'll paste the same file on that forum ans see who bites...before I give them to you.

When God finished Nowhere, there was a bit left over. That's where I live. Might do. It's a long drive though.

PM me a list of the best ones you got.  I am mostly interested in female vocals, opera and small jazz ensembles.  Thanks.  BTW, Rickie Lee is good.

Damn list. I keep putting it off. I'll get to it. Probably best to write it in word pad and mail it.
Actually not much opera, all the early Rick L. albums, Joni Mitchel. Nina Hagen etc. Nothing rare or collectable there. Nice if you've worn out your copy and want a double. Lots of jazz; Latin (Cal tjader, Claire Fisher...some GREAT albums) odd and little known early fusion, nothing traditionel. I repeat this cause I know what it means; LPs ONLY played on top machines, always cleaned, always in those special sleaves. I used to live where you could listen all day in the shop, handle the records. If they were warped
or noisy, took them back. Even the well-played ones are as perfect as the day I bought them. The covers are worn/scuffed from shipment, lugging them around in boxes. Can't be helped. I was a nut for good sound so most have. Some, like early Tony Rice and Andy Narell, are in the super disk class, never beaten. I'm holding back a few for sentimental reasons. I could have my arm twisted though (hard)
here's one.: Gary Burton Quartet in concert (Carnegie Hall) RCA '68.

There is this place
http://www.musicstack.com/

Never used them, so I can't vouch, but it seems worth checking out.  There is a signup fee of $49.

Good Luck
