I recently swapped out and sold all the boutique snakes in my ($50.000) system, replacing them with DIY efforts worth approx. $400 or so in total.  That was down from around $4500.  What was the change?  None, basically.

If you're handy enough to remove the isolation from a piece of cable without removing one or more limbs, I'd advocate trying the same route as me.  If not, Blue Jeans or signalcable.com make perfectly good cables at attractive prices.  I for one will never again pay more than what they charge for cables ever again.

Did you measure the no difference?  How do you know the no difference wasn't just in your head?  Absent some empirical evidence of no difference I'm not sold.

Good thing I'm not selling anything then, eh?  Back in the day, when I was a born again Audiophile, I would hear differences between anything and everything.  Now I no longer really care about swapping my stuff out for new toys every other week, year in, year out, being perfectly happy with what's planted in my living room.  Instead I relax, pour a malt and listen to the music.  And lo and behold, I no longer hear any differences between cables, tweaks and whatnot.  Funny that.  Guess it's all in my head, or not in my head as the case may be, but that's all good as far as I'm concerned.  Now where did I put that bottle of Bowmore....

I'd say with that bottle of malt, it is now all in your head. :D Perhaps that Bowmore is the cheapist tweak of all. :thumb:

Not that cheap ( hey, I'm a connoisseur, I can't be seen drinking the standard 12yo you know... ), but compared to a never-ending procession of CeraBalls, StillPoints and designer snakes coming in and going out, it's almost free.  :D  An invaluable accessory for any ex-audiophile methinks, which works it's lubricating magic every time without fail.

I had recently received an email about a guy who had been ready to spend 5 grand on his subwoofer cable. The manufacturer assured him it would resolve the bass problems he had.

He also thought about bass traps and someone convinced him to try some. Apparently he spent half the money on the traps as he would have on the cable and is very happy with this decision.

The part that got me is that someone would try to claim a cable, any cable, is capable of fixing bass problems. I guess if I spent 5 grand on a cable I'd expect the cable to be capable of magic too :thumb:

Glad to see you came to your senses. Spend the money on room treatments and bass traps. You will hear a major improvement. If you haven't already your 50k system isn't performing near it's potential. If you haven't already done this you'll be stupified by the improvement. This is far more important than wire or amps or dacs could even think of being.  Get ahold of Ethan at Realtraps. He's always giving his time to educate others for free. His products appear to be of the best designed and are priced well.

I too just listen to my system as I have lost alot of audiophile desires other than just listening to music. Even though cables can have an effect I'm too lazy to worry about it because it's too small of a difference as far as I'm concerned to go out of my way swapping in and out cables.  The enjoyment if music has been more wonderful than ever.

Good points there.  It's real interesting how often you see $$$$ cables in rooms which inherently drain the life and realism from any music, played on any system.  But then, cables are discrete and therefore so much easier to sell than big, intrusive room improvements which actually do something to the sound emanating from the stereo.....  Anyway, I hate those room improvements too in fact, but Persian rugs here and there on both walls and floor do their thing too it seems.  No idea what a RealTrap actually is, but I bet my eyes rest far more comfortably on a Nain or Isfahan regardless.  :D

Hey!

Well, that was a big change... money wise.

Yes, like you I wired my system with my own DIY cables. :D And no longer dreaming of own cable of very exotic, high price, weaved by witches, than blessed by voodoo priest and etc.

No, I'm not saying all cable are the same. It is just to me, you could only take it so far. Than after that it would just sound like magic

Than again who am I to say.... I've never had a pair 1 meter $1000+ pair of cable in my system  But do I feel like I'm missing anything? Hell no!

Hey! it is your money. Spend it wisely! :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:
