Bending up bigger caps

Hi Jim,

Almost finished building my Chime... looking forward to getting it up and running over the next couple of weeks.

In the process of ordering parts, I decided to upgrade all 1uF, 600V film caps (4 x B+ bypass, 2 x signal caps) to VH Audio OIMP caps.  (I have been curious about these for a while and decided to kill two birds with one stone).

Problem is, they're a tad bigger than the lead spacing on the board.  To install them, I put heat shrink around the leads and then bent the leads back under the capacitor body, then at right-angles to meet the hole spacing requirements.  Each capacitor is sitting maybe 1/4" above the board.

Is there a better way to do this?

Regards,

Mark C.

Not really.  Sometimes I glue them down with silicone to reduce vibrations.  Long leads act like guitar strings.

I have seen installation where the cap is on end so that one lead is very short and the other lead is longer coming down as shown below:

JH, Is there anything wrong with doing it this way?
