Thanks Wayne for your work on the SB2

I just wanted to drop in here and thank you Wayne for the SB2 :thumb:  For those who don't know, I have had it now for about a month, Wayne finished it just before the RMAF and I know he was very busy then getting ready for the show.  Wayne your work is first class and the performance is better than I expected (and I expected a lot).  I got the full Monty so to speak with the elpac not the top of the line power supply, which I will get in time (money).

During the first couple of weeks I ran it 24/7 and although good I didn't think I would use it without a DAC.  Now hmmmmmmmmmm, I sold my DAC (Dodson 218) with the idea of running a DEQX but now I'm thinking that it will be more complicated than I want.  So I have ordered an Audio Logic 34 (the new model).  I will report back and let you guys know if there is a big enough difference with the DAC in.

Anyway thank you again Wayne the SB2 is better than expected and that doesn't happen very often.  Guy

Guy,

Looking forward to hearing your comments on the Audio Logic vs. Bolder full analog mods.  Did you get any of the Bybee upgrades?

To this day, the Audio Logic 24MXL is my favorite dac (especially with some nice NOS tubes).  It is simply just a joy to listen to.  I only sold mine when I made my commitment to the TacT preamp/dac.

I have had my fully modified (everything including the kitchen sink and Gold Bybees) analog SB2 playing for the last two + weeks in my bedroom system.  I will put it into the main system sometime in the next few days.

Should be very interesting...

Looking forward to your thoughts on the gold Bybees. Were you using copper or silver Bybees before these?

Neither.

I have been using a SB2 modified by Bolder for digital use only, no analog mods.

George mine has everything (gold bybees) and both analog and the digital out.  The only thing else I could do is get the top of the line power supply.  Jerry at Audio Logic said it would be 2-3 weeks before the DAC will be ready to ship and I will report back.

George thanks for your help as well I enjoy bouncing things off of folks before committing the dough  the ole measure twice and cut once.

George,

Wayne now offers a silver Bybee with the digital mod. I understand that your version of the digital mod does not have a silver Bybee. Is that true?

Raja,

I don't think that I have a Bybee in my digital SB2 - is that correct Wayne?

George's digital modded SB2 is a little over a year old now. He does not have the BlackGates in the internal Power Supply or any Bybee Purifiers in the digital section. It does have a Silver WBT NextGen on the digital output

Guy, I am glad you are enjoying the the modded SB2. The Gold Purifiers and other mods really raise the SB above most other digital sources. If you REALLY want to hear what it can do, you should try the Ultimate MKII PS. That is what really makes the difference. The modded ELPAC is quite a step above the stock PS, but it cannot show you everything that the modded SB can do.

I will be sending my prototype Ultimate PS II and SB2 with Silver Purifiers in all outputs for an audition to tomjtx in Dallas next week. Perhaps some of you in the area might wish to contact him about getting together to take a listen.

Elpac has discontinued making the power supply that was referenced on the BC site, although it appears some are still available from the vendor BC uses.  After that, i wonder what will happen.  A DIY ground-up power supply would be easy for DIYer to make, but would be pretty expensive for us mortals to buy.  A better power supply should be the best single mod one could make.  5V 1.5Amp power supplies are NOT plentiful.

I have the Power One power supply with Wayne's mods. This gives you another option for a relatively cheap linear power supply.

Wayne I would like to hear your power supply when it comes to town, just let me know what I have to do.  Also how much is that darn thing again (with everything)?

Thanks, Guy

Wayne,

My SB3 just got delivered to me by Post! EEEEEHAAWWWW!! :hyper: :hyper:

For those wondering, I got the full analog mod with Sonicaps platinum bypass caps. No Bybees though. And modded Elpac PS.

It's off tonight to a buddy's house to begin burning in. He's also setting up an external hard drive for me and going to tutor me on all the FLAC business and how to navigate all through this transition. I'll let it settle down for a month or so, then put it in my system and give some feedback.

Wayne's turn around on my Elpac was like, 2 days. And maybe 2 or 3 on the SB3. Awesome service! :green:

Thanks for everything Wayne. :thumb:

One happy camper!

Cheers
