FB1+ legitimacy and upgrade questions
« on: 18 Nov 2006, 09:34 am »

Are my FB1+'s the real thing?   Here's a summary of my  concerns with my speakers.

1.   When my speakers arrived via UPS,  5 out of the 8 contact points for the internal wires to the crossovers were loose. I realize this may have been due to the shipping (I live in rural Alaska) and these things had to go through the grinder to get here.   Not a big deal, it was easy for me to undo the connection, just crimp the connections a little tighter and then re-fasten.  It made me wonder.....but,  then I noticed the crossovers do indeed say FB1+ so I started thinking that bumpy shipment was the culprit.

2.   serial # stickers.   One speaker has no serial #.   the other speaker has the serial # sticker, but it has obviously been removed (or fell off)  and then stuck back on.   Hmmm.

Other aspects seem to go together well.  Drivers are flush mount.  Dealer is reputable and authorized by PMC.    And they sound great.  But I can't help but wonder -  are these FB1's that have been upgraded? If so, how can I tell that the right tweeter was exchanged?  What about the foaming transplant, how do I know that was done or done properly?  Or, are these in fact FB1+'s and I just need to have a drink and relax?.....

Other questions regarding upgrades:

Anybody have any info. on doing upgrades to the internal wiring and/or crossovers?  I would love to do this - what I don't know is what type of wiring and crossover to use and where to get them.  I am totally unfamiliar with companies that sell after-market crossovers or wiring.

I'm aware that these questions have been asked over the last few years on this forum,  but the collective response / answers didn't seem to get too far.  I'm hoping someone might have some new info. this time around.

Any answers or suggestions you could share would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi GR,

Should be able to just contact PMC and make sure the Serial (number) you have is assigned to a pair of FB1+.

Hi James:

I forgot to mention one other thing;  the spec sheet that came with these speakers says "FB1."   Which makes me a little suspicious that the serial # sticker may be been taken off an FB1+ and just stuck on one of these speakers.   I have tried emailing PMC reps in the US and got no response.   Would it be appropriate for me to email their UK office directly?  Thanks again -
