PMC BB5XBD Demo Weekend at Sevenoaks Edinburgh
« on: 18 Nov 2006, 09:12 am »
PMC have offered Sevenoaks Sound & Vision Edinburgh the chance to borrow an awesome BB5XBD Active package for a weekend. We will be holding open days on the 25th and 26th November. We will be open from 10:00-18:00 on the Saturday and from 12:00-16:00 on the Sunday.

Not everyone gets the chance to experience exactly what the engineers hear while recording for Deutsche Grammophon or mastering for Kraftwerk. This is your opportunity to be charmed/scared by the ultimate PMC reference loudspeaker system.

If you are interested in hearing what these awesome speakers are capable of please telephone or e-mail the store to register your interest.

Here is a link to some pictures from the weekend.

Many Thanks to Tom Barron for all his hard work in organising this.

The tweeter and mid are located quite high on this speaker. Do they do something special
to adjust it for listening while sitting down ?

Too bad they weren't on demo when I was strolling through the Grassmarket in June...what a beautiful area it is!  I live in Toronto so it wasn't likely that I was going to get over to hear them.  I've short-listed the BB5 as a speaker I'm considering purchasing.  If anyone in North America has a pair for demo please post here.

Jethro, you are correct about the height issue.  It's a matter of taste I think.  I had the chance to buy the MB2/xbd but I didn't like the image height which was elevated compared to "normal" speakers due to the high position of the mid/tweets.  I've heard the MB2s on home stands and they sound nice with an image height that suits me better.

I believe that because the BB5 has such a wide vertical dispersion that it is not normally an issue.

Not as far as I'm aware. It might be worth phoning PMC themselves and finding out what other stores will be demonstrating them.

Hi James
I've finally decided to join in the fun on the PMC/Bryston forum.
In answer to how the BB5/XBD sounded in Edinburgh, they sounded brilliant! (I would say that though!)
The dem room was a little bright but the response was easily adjusted on the 10B X-overs to tame it.
The guys in the store are still recovering from the experience as the amp rack alone is a genuine 4 man lift.
So I've posted my first reply.. no doubt the first of many.
p.s.
We can't all have a honed athletic body like James Tanner!!
