Bugle and Passive Pre?
« on: 18 Nov 2006, 06:08 am »
Will a Bugle work decently with my 25K 'passive preamp'?  Sorry if this was answered somewhere and I missed it.  I understand it may not be a perfect match, but I doubt anything else inexpensive will be.

thanks,

Paul

Should be no problem at all.  With the opamp buffers, a BUGLE could drive a 5k volume pot without breaking a sweat.

Fantastic.  What's your take on SLA's v. 9V's?  Will the SLA's yield a big improvement?  I have a charger for 9V NiMH's, so that is the easiest solution for me.  I'm thinking about a chassis.

Also, it sounds like these may have a little DC offset.  My chip amp isn't set up to handle any.  Is there an easy way to add coupling caps?

You might get about 10mV dc offset.  Depends on the opamp.  This should not be a problem for most amplifiers.  Adding the coupling caps can color the sound, but if necessary, just put them inline with the interconnects.

I haven't tried them, but people report here that the SLAs work great.
