Replacing tonearm cable
« on: 17 Nov 2006, 05:30 pm »
I'll be replacing my 1200sl tonearm cable with Cardas wire.  I plan to twist each pair of wires but should I also twist each channel pair around the other?  Or should each twisted pair stay separate?

Thanks, Andy

Hey!

Hmmm.... I don't have experience with the Technic arm. But I did managed to rewire my Rega 250 arm. I also use Cardas wires for this. They are a bit painful to strip and solder to the clips though because they are so small :(

It was actually easier than I though it would be with the Rega. :D Still somehow I managed to broke the ground wire... haven't got around to get it re-hook to the arm tube. :(

What I did was cut out the old clips than solder the new wire to the old one at the head shell side... try not to make any thick ball at the soldering point... than I pull the old wire from the bottom of the arm base. When the new wire have gone through, just cut the old wire. And that's it! :D

As for the wire... Well, I haven't twisted them up. I just left them run loose next to each other in the arm tube. I'm afraid that if I bundle them and twisted them to tightly it will be hard for the are to move. This work fine so far and I'm very happy with the sound. Much better than the old stock wire and RCA cable :D

Anyway, I guess you could bundled them up and twisted them a bit. But make sure the bundle could move freely. And when you done make sure that the hold arm could move and swing freely :D

Take care,

Don't twist wires from two channels together anywhere.  This will reduce separation of the channels.

Thanks for the response guys.  So I'll twist each channel but keep the channels separate.

Hey!

Thanks Frank for the info. :D Well,I didn't twist them in my arm... I just let them run along eachother. This work best for me :D
