Word got out locally that Wally World (Walmart) would have 20 Playstation 3 unit son sale starting Friday morning. My son just told me that there is already a line formed in th electronics department. They have chairs out and they are all full. About 40 people are in line just waiting for those up front to say forget-it and go home.  I guess with Wally World being open 24 hours, people figure they can stay dry and warm while they wait.

All this for a computer game??????? Who does that  I remember people doing this for Tickle Me Elmo too. I don't get it.

Would anybody here stand (or sit) in line for 3 days just to get their hands on a computer game?

There are 30 people outside of Circuit City in Anaheim, blankets pillows and chairs, all to be there Friday AM?  I thought I had no life, but this takes the cake.

There is another thread here in this forum about Best Buy's black Friday ad where this was posted..

If the sale is this friday (the 17th) don't forget Playstation 3 is launching too. So you'll have an even bigger line to contend with.
I'm camping out at Wal-Mart to pick one up and flip it on eBay (they are already seling for upwards of $2000). That should help finance some audio purchases.

$500 a day to sit in a chair?  For me, not if it was guaranteed money, to sit in wally world two days with the
Sleestaks they have running around there?  Not a chance.

There were people camping out for days here in Austin this week when the new IKEA store opened.  For what?  A free chair for the first 100 people and pudding pops for the kids.  I don't get it.

The worst is someone spending $2000 on a P3. That's a great investment. :o

Watching the news I see there are people caming out all over the country. What I don't understand is that many of these people appear to be of an age that should be in school

Yeah these gamers (or ebay investors?)

-Have time
-Have some means of support other than working
-Have $700 to spend on a potentially available PS3 (the original 400,000 has been cut to 200,000 available according to analysts)

Who are these people?

Only half the pre-orders are getting filled on Friday, according to anecdotal evidence from phone calls to those who have pre-ordered, so how many will be available that were not pre-ordered?

Should this be in the Enders Game circle?

Long queue outside one of the Walmart Palm Beach, 4 guys has been there since Tuesday night. They're the first four in line, and as a reward, they get to buy the premium version of the PS3 for $650, and their plan is to sell three of them for $3000-$4000 each.

Are people really going to pay $2000-4000 for a PS3?

That's just insane!!

I'm embarrassed that I live here...

http://www.jsonline.com/watch/?watch=1&date=11/16/2006&id=14503

West Bend - One person was injured early this morning outside the Wal-Mart department store in West Bend as a crowd of about 50 people lined up for a chance to buy one of 10 coveted video game systems the store has for sale.

Police have provided details of the incident late this morning:

An assistant store manager announced to the crowd, which had formed about 7 a.m., that the store expected to receive only 10 of the Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles, and that they would become available at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

The store official placed 10 chairs outside the store and directed the waiting customers to another area. At a signal, the customers were told to run to try to occupy one of the chairs. During the contest, a 19-year-old man ran into a pole and struck his head, injuring himself. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.   :duh: :banghead: :rotflmao:

Police said the case was one of helping an injured person, and was not the subject of any criminal investigation.   :o

The lines are gone today....and in other news.....

"On the first day the much anticipated PlayStation 3 hit shelves in stores across the country, two armed thugs in Connecticut targeted game seekers with fat wallets, shooting one person waiting in a Wal-Mart line who refused to give up money, authorities said.

Police were still searching for the suspects."

"...in Palmdale, Calif., authorities shut down a Super Wal-Mart after some shoppers got rowdy late Wednesday."

And....finally a store that got smart....
"A Best Buy in Boston, aware it had only 140 of the consoles, got smart — employees gave out tickets to the first 140 people in line so everyone could go home."

Happy gaming.....
