Beck, Bogert and Appice for $9.99
« on: 15 Nov 2006, 07:53 pm »
Just picked up the classic Jeff Beck cd at BB for 9.99. Killer songs like "Superstition", rocks a bit harder than Sevie Wonder did, and "Lady". Also got a 2disc best of The Tradgically Hip for $15.99. Saw the Canadian fellas in Portland a couple of times when they were new, great band and great drinkers!

Great musicians in that band. Check out if you can find it, Stevie Ray Vaughn's version of "Superstitious". It's only available as a live recording, I believe, but totally rocks. I believe Stevie Wonder actually sat in and played keys on it.  :thumb:

Yup. Carmine Appice is a mother of a drummer. He's influenced so many great drummers. He's highly underrated.

He is the one who advised Ludwig to give an endorsement deal to John Bonham.

When I started playing, Appice was my first real influence/idol. Later Cobham and other jazz guys came along but Appices' style still sounds good and not dated.

It seems like Carmine has played with practically everybody that's ever made a historical landmark in rock. The guy's been around. :drums:

Another great rock drummer. Yeah he's played around a lot. I didn't know he played with Zappa. I knew he was in Jefferson Starship ( or Airplane???) Whitesnake and so on.

Speaking of Zappa, have you ever seen Terry Bozzio? Probably one of the, if not, most insane things I've ever seen. I seen this live show they did when Steve Vai was playing guitar for Zappa, and his drum solo was very impressive. And I'm not a big fan of drum solos, ( love drums, just not solos ). The guy was phenominal. He used to play in a cheesy pop band called Missing Persons.

I saw that band doing a Halloween show in S.F, I believe. It was carried by a cable station out of Canada that I had way back when cable was not so corporate. Great show, Steve Vai was wearing Devil-horns  :icon_twisted:and everyone was playing over the top.
