OK, I recorded an analog LP to a hard drive through a sound card. Initially it was one long file then I edited it into individual tracks and burned a CD. I was planning to manually enter the title/song info. But to my SURPRISE! the copy was correctly ID'ed through the Orange CD internet search! HOW DID IT KNOW ????
I did a program to grab info from CDDB some time back and looked at the method CDDB to identify CDs. it bases on the number of tracks and the length of each tracks to generate a code to identify CDs. I can't believe that it can identify custom recorded CDs (!) unless Orange CD used some more intelligent method to understand the content of a CD or it happened that your recorded CD generated a code that just match, or very close to, the CD version of the same album.
Record another album and try search again? It's interesting.
You can also re-edit the album and make one of the track significantly longer with silence or noises at the begining or the end of the track and see what happend.
