bastanis drivers/bd-design quasar mk11
« on: 12 Nov 2006, 02:59 pm »
Hello folks:
I have been looking into the different design fora OB speaker.
I really like the Bastanis( has a new one called the Atlas a MTM version) Also, from bd-design.nl  they have the Quasar Mk 11.
Does any one know which drivers the Bastanis use- I think the tweeter is a Beyma (from thread at diyaudio). The same for the Quasar Mk 11.
I like to clone them.
Thanks,
Roland

Hi Roland

The wideband for the bastanis prometheus and atlas is an Eminence driver manufactured on Mr. Bastani specs. The old tweeter was a Beyma type, but the MK2 use a dipole tweeter Mr.Bastani has developed trough years of research. Definitely better than the Beyma. I upgraded to the dipole tweeter this summer, and got a different speaker. Much better integrated sound. Highly recommended speaker.

Also worth noting is that the Eminence drivers in the Bastanis are treated with lacquer to change the stiffness from center outward. Robert has posted some specifics on the process, it's complicated and takes him several months so you're not going to get the same kind of performance from any stock driver.
