I wonder if there has been serious consideration by Bryston to allowing the SP2 firmware to switch to Digital EX without the flag in the source material?

The ability to force a switch to THX Surround EX (6.1 or 7.1) from THX Cinema (5.1) is allowed without any flag, but unfortunately this is not the case if you want to switch from Dolby Digital (5.1) to Dolby Digital EX (6.1 or 7.1).

Why is that?

I enjoy the extra back channels derived from 5.1 information, but I'm not that fussed about THX processing.

Is Bryston considering this ability?

Play a DD5.1 signal - hit the MODE button - (back speaker(s) must be engaged) DD EX will appear - hit SAVE.

On mine at home it will save per input DD EX. Send me you email address and I will send you the software - maybe there is a problem with yours.

Hi Brucek,

Got a SP1.7 upgraded to a SP2... and i can't either force no 5.1 track to DOLBY EX.
The only way it works is "if the track is EX flagged", then it's possible...

James send me a new firmware too, but i didn't tried it yet.
I'll tell you is it changes anything...

OK James, I guess I'm not even going to ask what the difference is in that firmware you sent me, other than to say that Dolby Digital EX works fine now.

I can force it on and off with the mode button now when there is any 5.1 information available. I even went back to the firmware that is available on the site and it reverted back to not working...

Anyway, it works now. Thanks.
