Bryston vs QSC-PLX2 ?
« on: 6 Nov 2006, 07:47 pm »
hi guys,

Since bryston is used in the pro area.. was wondering how they compare with QSC products namely the PLX3602... (note this is still for home use  , but I have some contacts that can get me a good deal.  the QSC product is all digital as far as I can see from their webpage.

Oh! and I own 2 4BSST's and love em... this is just a good deal that I thought I'd consider...

so if anyone has any comments both good and bad.. pls reply.

Thanks

It's kind of like comparing a Skoda to a Lexus.

I think people are just being diplomatic.  QSC has been around for a while.  They tend to specialize in light weight amps that are useful for DJs or sound reinforcement where someone needs a good deal of power and needs to lug them all over the place.   www.partsexpress.com carries them.  Personally, I would not even consider them for audio use in a home system vs. an amp designed for home use and not even the quality of Bryston.  I'd take Rotel or any entry level amp in my home before considering anything in that category.  The question you posed is kind of like comparing an automobile designed to take you from place to place and if that is your goal, that's OK - vs. something in the ultra luxury catagory.

Dear,

Sorry James but QSC is not a Skoda ;) QSC is a well respected brand of pro audio/PA products. They have some smart amplifier designs. For home audio use, in absolute sense the QSC PLX series lacks the refinement and cleanness of a Bryston SST amp. If you need a amplifer only for the low-end (woofer or subwoofer) the QSC PLX2 series or the better PL236A is a perfect choice. The low-end is stunning. I would be very happy with two QSC PL236A amps drives the woofers of my system and my 7BSST's the mid-highs. I might like the tighter and more forcefull lowend of QSC more then the low-end of my own 7BSST.

Best regards,
Bas

Well all I can say is I have heard QSC may times and as a sound reinforcement amp no problem but for sophisticated audio systems not for me.

thanks a lot guys... this is exactly what I wanted to hear..

Thanks James.. I was pretty sure that for critical listening there is no way the QSC's would stack up... I might still get one as a demo and see for myself (since I know the guy).
