Any of you use XM Radio or Sirius?

hi all,

yes, i agree, the temptation of digital radio is ever-present - definitely cool to be able to scan for new music, & it's ok for background music. but i will still boycott it, cuz the sound isn't fit for serious listening, & if it succeeds, its effects on music will be stifling, even if not so presently. much like walmart, which can offer great pricing for small communities, but then drives all the little guys outta biz, so ya end up w/little selection...

I am too far for that man. I am in Greensboro. I have been by there though. A friend had a wedding in Rutherfordton. Try finding some place to take a guy for a bachelor party near there. 45 minute drive just to get some booze! hah!!!

Dude, No contest! XM. . . Don't even think about Sirius. Some folks say Sirius sounds better, but not many audiophiles have said that. If they do sound better, it's because they have more bandwidth. And that's b/c they have no programming. They don't have anywhere near the programming that XM has. Also, they are FAR from financially solvent. So is XM, but they semm to be getting enough cash to keep them moving until they can break even. Every quarter, we all expect Sirius to make the big BK announcement. . .

Anyhow, if you are some sort of die-hard NASCAR fan, then Sirius may be te ticket for you.

I HATE NASCAR. . . Welcome to the South though. . hahaha

I am listening to Willie Nelson's 4th of July picnic right now b/c the Grateful Dead are playing a couple of sets! That's the type of stuff I like XM for. I don't have to get up with 50,000 freaks that smell bad to hear some good live GD. . .

Hi,
Has anyone tried the little unit which attaches to the PC via USB port? It receives XM Radio, and sends the audio out to either your sound card's line in, or to one's "stereo". The computer connection is just to control the channel selection and to see what's playing on the selected channel. Since i agree that the XM sound I've heard in a friend's car wasn't anywhere near "audiophile" quality, this kind of rig sounds like the perfect way to use XM for what it does best, introducing one to new music.

it is the absolute best thing I have ever heard on radio or TV. We have been given this poor excuse for comedy called sit coms, these stand upbits are from both past and present. You will be in tears cracking up!

My friend told me he liked the comedy channels best too, I guess it was a great way to bear up under the awful commuter traffic around here.

One certainly won't get many real laughs from the abyssmal FM radio in the Washington D.C. area.

That's exactly why I listen to it. I travel in the Noertheast. Out of Boston, NYC, and DC which has the worst traffic?
Hands down it's DC. If someone even farts on the beltway it causes a traffic jam. Laugh USA makes it much more bearable.

wpfw, 89.3, has some of the best latin, jazz, caribbean, & african music on the planet. as well as the only decent alternative to news, outside of the typical fascist mainstream blather. and, its sound quality is supurb. i get sonics comparable to my digital and analog rig, from my fm tuner, when listening to wpfw. as far as car radio is concerned, i'd rather drive - my main ride doesn't even have a radio. nothing like the sound of a well-tuned italian v6 to make beautiful music...
