Hey!

   Calling all PC peopel! Okay, my mother's friend is looking to buy a PC Laptop to be given to his cousin in Thailand. He doesn't have time so he asked for help wih this.

    But ever since I left the PC world I have not been following the PC scene. So, I don't have a clue where to start! Looking something at or under $1000 with 15" screen+ would be ideal.

    I've seen lots of PC Laptops with older non- Intel Core Duo at pretty low price. But I wonder if I should not cheap out and get the new processor intead... I think this would be better in the long run.

    Anyway, beside the price. Since this will ended up in Thailand the machine have to be realiable. So, guy! Which laptop do you think give the best "bang for the buck?" Thanks

Get the new IBM / Lenova.  They work great and the warranty is supported overseas.  Either the "3000" series or, the "R" series can be had at your price point and come with the Core 2 Duo.  I have the "R" series (in addition to my Apple) and have been very pleased.  It works extremely well. 

No reason to compromise on those fly-by-night machines.  I really don't think they sell for that much less nowdays.  Get the real deal.

I have to agree.  Go with IBM Thinkpad.  Excellent international support!

Hey!

   Thanks guys Hmmm... you know I wish I could them him to get a Mac. But using Mac in Thailand will be tough. True that many computer geeks over there know about Mac. But since there aren't many Mac dealer there and more importantly they aren't many Mac sofewares there. Only companies and people who are into art/music/video/photo related business use Mac over there. It will be a rare sight to see a Mac in a regular Thai home. But thing might change with the new Mac that could also run Window

     Anyway, I checked out the Lenova site and look like they have office/dealers and service center in Thailand.

   The machine themsleve look pretty good for the price. So, I will tell my mother's friend to get the Lenova.
