future products?
« on: 29 Oct 2006, 06:24 pm »
I thought I'd like to start a completely different thread here just for the fun of it. It's all about what I'd love to see Odyssey put on the market down the road, and I'm certain many of you will have your own ideas to chime in with.
Here's my thoughts:
* a really good phono preamp with loading from the outside. Two inputs would be great along with a seperate power supply (know this wont come cheap)
* 50 watt tubed mono blocs
* A tubed DAC that features upsampling and "anti-jitter"

your turn!

I'm not sure if any of you picked up the fact that the candella drives tube amps very well, but it does. It does this so well that I may order a second one in the Spring to use in my upstairs system. If I could have one change in the Candella it would be a tape loop. I do record rock & roll tapes for my sister who's handicapped, and this would be a serious plus for me.
As for the phono stage, I think maybe a standard and a super deluxe is in order here. It'd save a bunch of cable swaps down the road if it had two inputs. I plan on adding a second tone arm to my "final tool" with a mono cartridge for my vintage jazz lp's, so I think you see where I'm go here. And I tell you that if you didn't have to take the top cover off to to change the cartride loading they'd beat a path to your door! Least wise I'd pitch a tent in your front yard waitting on one!

Yes indeed it does...I have driven both EL84/6BQ5 (Dyna circuit) and EL34 (own circuit) based amps... :guitar:

IS a DAC  one of the 2 from the list that may become a reality?  IF so, I can hold off my purchase of a DAC or cdp.

Klaus says 2 out of  7.. Interesting I am gonna bet the big money on an intergrated, and a phono stage as being the 2 most likely… Although probably not a seprate power supply on a phono as stated above, but somewhat accessable adjustments maybe.

Would be nice if one of the Odyssey preamp products had a headphone out - more wishful thinking...

funny thing you brought up the headphone thing. Right before the folks I work for offered me the deal of a lifetime to get outta Dodge I was actually looking at buying a headphone amp to use at work. I even went so far as to look into a cd player just working by itself. Of course I did nothing. Right now about the only thing I use headphones for are to monitor tape recordings
